Scared to Put Frontline on By Myself! Hi Guys, We just came back from the vet and they gave me two 3 packs of the frontline plus to put on my babies. Problem is, the vet just said to read the instructions and put it on, and I'm scared to. Am I being silly? Does everybody do this themselves? How do I know I've got it in the right spot? What if it makes them sick? Help please! |
It's a cinch, trust me. Just pull back their hair on their back in between their shoulderblades and they won't be able to get to it. Just make sure your baby hasn't had a bath within the last 3 days, and dont give them a bath for at least anohter 3 days. (In three more days I will be giving Sully his frontline too.) |
You'll be fine, don't worry about it. Just like Val said, make sure you get the hair pulled back good. If you have people kids, you may tell them to not touch that area for awhile. |
I'm afraid too! Don't feel bad! That's why I haven't given it yet. I've been giving TIno & Bunny the heartwork pills with the flea protection in it, but since we go to the lake a lot I want them to be protected against ticks as well, so I am going to get the Frontline this week. I not worried abt getting it in the right spot, but more worried if they have an allergic reaction. I think I am only going to put a tiny bit on Bunny to begin with bc she's so small to make sure she doesnt have a reaction. I'm such a wimp about some things! |

LvMyYorki you have a afrain grey parrot? he or she is so pretty i have one too and it plucks it's feathers like a chicken, took him to the vet and he said he has an attitude problem lol. wish mine looked like yours. ok guys i just read this thread and I just gave my dogs a bath and put advantage on them after the bath wish I would have read this b4 i did it. will it still work and protect them? |
Yup, just like passionfruition says, that spot behind their heads, near the bottom of their necks, and they can't get to it. Just make sure they don't smear it somewhere right away then lick it though. It is doable yourself. Only the first time is the hardest, just like giving your Yorkie a haircut or cutting their nails or plucking their ears. :) |
I had to use some on chloe yesterday. All my babies have fleas. It makes me mad because I dont ever get fleas until someone elses dog comes over. I had to watch my parents dog a week ago and sure enough he had fleas. SO now I cant get rid of them. SInce chloe is so tiny I only used a teny tiny bit of the frontline stuff. I actually split one tube between Tink & chloe(using most of it on tink since she is 3 x bigger) because together they dont even add up to 10lbs. |

Yes, I'm quite serious! I've never done it and I personally think my vet should've showed me how and done it the first time and I would've asked him, but we were rushed out due to an incoming dog with a dislocated hip. I'm just scared I'll screw it up and they'll get sick and die. I thought I could post my concerns about it here on YT where someone might understand, share the same feelings, or could offer some words of encouragement without being ridiculed. It is a shame the YT community has come to this. I personally think if you can't say anything nice, then you don't need to say anything at all. |

One whole tube or just a little bit? Or split one whole tube between the two? I just don't want to make them sick. |
I havent done it yet and i scare also that Gucci can get sick cause of it. I let you know when i do it how it when. If you still feel that you are not sure how to do it call your vet and tell him how you feel. Maybe he will show you. Good luck. |
hey, I just pm-ed you about it. I know your concerned about the frontline because as some of us have been learning the past few days, our little fur babies are extremly delicate and no post on here asking for our help should be taken lightly. COme on GUys! :) |
Last month, I only had one tube of Frontline Plus left so I split it between 3.4# Carter and 1.6# Cooper. I found that they were scratching before the month was over but could never find fleas so I don't know if it was my imagination or if I'm just blind as a bat! This month, I put a full tube on each. Cooper was weighed today and is still 1.6#. Besides having his flea med, he had his last booster, his rabies shot, the 2nd round of bordetella and his heartworm pill (inteceptor). He's been fine all day - not even an increase in the amount of sleep. The key is to get the Frontline onto the skin as much as possible so that it gets into their system. You should do fine. |

Just part their little coat on the back of their neck and touch the skin before you put the first drop on. I wear a rubber glove so I can rub it in a little bit. I use 1/2 tube on each one under 3-5 lbs monthly. I am careful to NOT give another med for about 24 hours or so.. If they get sick, I want to be sure whch one is the culprit..TICKS are a big concern in my area so I am conscientious about the stuff. Don't want them to bring in a tick to me and I worry about tick-borne illnesses for them.. |
