What's normal temp for 9 mo. pup? My 9 mo. old male puppy feels warm. I have a digital thermometer and took his temp holding it between his front leg and body - what would be our arm pit. It was 100.2. Don't want to call the vet without knowing if this is above normal. Does anyone know what the normal temp should be? Also, what is correct way to take temp? I'm a new mom, obviously. LOL!! :aimeeyork |
101 degrees is the average normal temperature for a dog. Also, the armpit is not a good place to get an accurate temperature for a dog. You need an ear thermometer or a rectal thermometer. I wouldn't worry too much unless he's having other abnormal symptoms. |
Another symptom He has a knot on him bottom by his rectum that I just noticed this evening. It's red and swollen. He's a 2 lb. little guy and won't get much bigger, so I tend to be concerned about him anyway. |
The knot could be from impacted anal glands. They need to be expressed (squeezed) to get the gunk out. The vet can do it and show you how to do it in the future if that is the problem, but I would definitely get it checked out. ~Melody |
I always feel their noses, they should be damp and cool.. |
I mashed the knot today because it looked like it was coming to a head. There was pus and blood in it, and it went down almost entirely. I wonder if I can get some info online about the anal glands until I can get into see the Vet? Thanks for knowing what this might be. I was afraid he might have a spider bite, or ???, but your explanation fit so well. I am really thankful the Breeder told me about this Web-site. All of you have been so helpful. I am a horse-person, so this has been a big transition for me, and I am loving every minute of it. :aimeeyork |
