What should a properly healing suture look like? Britney had her staples removed a week ago tomorrow (11 days after her spay). It looks weird to me. It's a little red and almost dirty.. It reminds me of what flea dirt looks like. They had some problems (damn tech AGAIN ) removing two of the staples and the vet had to literally yank them out. So I'm not sure if that's effecting them or not. I called the vet on Friday and was told just to put some Neosporin(sp?) on it. Any suggestions? Should I call and talk to the actual vet tomorrow? |
ooh wow..I don't know what that could be..put neosporin on it like the vet said and keep on eye on her. Hope she heals okay =) |
1 Attachment(s) This is my Malts incision the day after her spay. Attachment 161343 You can't see it now 5 months later. Could it be the scabbing coming off? |

I'd take a picture but I'm not sure how to do it without it being blurry. |
We had Coby's sutures removed two weeks after his neuturing. A few weeks later, the incision, while previously looking all completely healing, started to swell a little. Coby started licking and messing with it, turning it red, and then it started scabbing. ... exactly how you described it.... like flea dirt. I took him in, and the vet said that it was one of the internal stitches not dissolving correctly. He gave him a shot of antibiotic and told me to put neosporin on it for a few days. He said it's quite common and not serious. Coby was fine in a couple of days. Hope that helps........ |

Had to yank out the staples??? Ouch! |
When Daisy was spayed she had the dissolvable sutures but, hers was red and actually bled a little. I was really worried about it but, the vet said it was normal and to just but antibacterial ointment on it. The Dr said to just keep an eye on it to make sure it didn't get any worse. |
Britney had staples too? I thought Ellie was one of the only ones. Everyone else gets sutures. I am so worried that Ellie will scream in pain when they try to take them out. |
