Questions for any 1 that is willing to help Hello, Does any one have some tips on brushing your dogs teeth and like what tooth paste you use. Also if i should do it?Do I need to use a harness instead of a collar? Dani |
I use the Petrodex toothpaste. It is beef flavored, so my baby loves it. I've never had to use a harness to hold Riley, while I brush his teeth. The main problem I have is Riley wanting to chew on the toothbrush, but hes gradually getting better about it. |

You could buy some doggie toothpaste from Petsmart (I use the peanut butter flavor and Chloe loves loves it!!) At first, you probably have some hard time burshing their teeth, just be patience with them....slowly they will get used to it and actually looking forward to it!!! Chloe didnt like me brushing her teeth at first, but i praised her a lot and gave her some treat afterwards! Of coz now I dont need to give her any treat anymore after brushing her teeth since she does seem brushing her teeth as "treat"! hehe collar is more for id and stores information. i never hook my leash to it. i hook my leash to a harness instead when take her out for a walk or run.. hope it helps! |

harnesses are better if your pup doesn't lead when on walks. Beacuse most tend to pull on the leash the put lost of pressure on their throat and can injur themselves with a tug to the leash. |
I use the finger brush for Emmy, it's easier for her little mouth than the regular toothbrush. She doesn't really like having her teeth brushed but she will let me. I use a harness for walking, but when she's in the house I don't keep it or a collar on her. |
I use a spinning toothbrush that I bought at Petco, and then I use the finger-brush afterwards. I use some kind of mint-flavored toothpaste that I bought at Petsmart. We only use collars as decoration and for her ID tag. I always use a harness and leash for walking her |
Welcome to YT!! I use Petzlife toothpaste, theres a few ppl on here that sell it. |

P.S. - I use a finger brush, as well as a regular (doggie) toothbrush. |
I use the mint flavored stuff from Petsmart. They LOVE it, but it is still a chore to try to brush the toofies. I brush a little and them let them lick a bit from the toothbrush to keep them interested. Also, their breath smells SOOOO Good afterwards. |
Most any doggie toothpaste is fine. You can even use a childs tooth brush (the tiny ones) Real small dogs should be walked useing a harness instead of a collar. Collars can cause damage of the trachea.........collapse. I only use a collar to put their ID tag on. |
I've noticed alot of people here use the little finger toothbrushes. Riley's mouth is still too small for one of those. If your puppy's mouth is really small also, I would recommend this toothbrush from dog.com. It has a big end and a small end. The smaller end is smaller than a child's toothbrush and it works great. They might sell these at pet stores. I havent looked though. http://www.dog.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=311310%20001 |
To get Conner used to getting his teeth brushed, I used the gloves with bristles on one finger and thumb (you put the paste on the fingers with the bristles). Once he got used to that, we graduated to a toothbrush. I use a harness for Conner and a breakaway collar for his tags. If he ever gets caught on anything, I know he will be safe with this collar. |
I just made a post tonite about brushing bella's teeth. I love this glove. Check the post in the health section. The glove is so great. But, I do have small fingers |
