Simon's BORED!! As most of you probably know, Simon is high high high high energy! Well the past couple of days regardless of how many walks we go on or how long we play ball he seems to be bored! Maybe it's me I don't know but I need to find something fun and new for him! He doesn't play with toys, only his ball! Any ideas? |
I need ideas too!! Cosmo just seems like he is bored too or just wants to chew on cords becuase his toys are not good enough. He gets bored with his other toys becuase they dont fight back or play with him. i need suggestions too! |
i need to be carefull with toby, when he gets bored he goes into destructo mode.......... he tried chewing up his teddy bear and he chewed up his other toy last night too..... |
We take Duncan and Mollie to the canine hydrotherapy pool a couple of times a week - they love havinga swim and it wears them both out nicely :D |

Canine hydrotherapy pool??? I wish I could find a place like that, how nice that must be! I take Simon and Hallie to daycare but he is still acting bored at home. Maybe he needs a puppy to play with ;) That's just what I need (haha) |
Have you tried the plush activity toys? There's one that looks like a tree stump with 3 holes in it and it comes with 3 or 4 plush squeeky squirrles that you stuff inside -- goal being that he/she retrieve the squirrles out of the tree. Sounds weird when I describe it I think, but I know many-a-puppy that loves this toy!! Not to mention the entertainment factor on our side! I dunno, just a suggestion! :) good luck. |
I have the squirrels and the bees! Hallie loves them but Simon (and I'm not being bias) is too smart for them. He grabs them out, puts them back in once and looks at me like "that wasn't hard"! He isn't much of a toy dog so I'm having a hard time finding activities that he likes and that make him happy! I stood on my head today to entertain him, he just licked up my nose! |
Oh that is so funny! Standing on your head? And putting the toys BACK into the puzzle! I'm impressed by you both! I try to find battery operated toys. Not to fond of those yapper balls after listening to the wave files. (But that may be something to buy when I'm gone and don't have to listen to them, haha) We have this Bumble Ball from the drugstore marketed towards toddlers that was $8 cheaper than the one at PetWhatever marketed towards dogs. Bodhi goes nuts over this! The only thing is that it vibrates and when Bodhi gets a good grip on it, HE vibrates! Thinking this can't be good for his little brain cells, I just hold it, turn it on for a few seconds. Turn it off and let him growl and chew on it. I do have to watch how much he chews on the part that starts it. He hasn't learned to push it in, but he could bite it off and swallow the piece. I'm thinking of inserting it in one of his old cushions, so that I can leave it running. That should buffer things and still maintain his interest. I'll be trying the Giggle Ball when I house/dogsit soon. They're dogs never seemed to have been interested in it. OH! There's also the laser pens now that project a bug. I think these are safer than the regular ones because when the dog gets smart and starts looking for the source, he can't accidently look at the laser and get eye damage. Also! You don't have to do anything. Just lead the dog around with the projection. Let HIM get tired! Tee hee! I'd love to know of a remote-control-chew-proof toy. |
Where oh where can I get a laser pen? That would be perfect for Simon!! I had a bumbleball but he hated it, he picked it up and got bored! He's silly! |
1 Attachment(s) Well, I'll tell ya. It's actually called a Critterbug Laser Light. http://www.critterbug.com/ has the best pics, but plenty of sites have them for $7.99. http://yorkietalk.com/forums/attachm...hmentid=&stc=1 There's also a video of a dog in action. http://www.engadget.com/entry/8818248724858804/ This one is using an attachment for the iPod. I'm not really crazy about this gadget used with a pet. Looking at the light can cause eye damamge. But the video is kinda cute. The photographer must have worn this dog out, because they usually are more excited, ha ha. |
i was going to suggest a bumble ball, u can usually find them at KB toys... for about 10 bucks |
We have drop down stairs to get into the attic (I can't think of their real name right now sorry) the ones that fit flush with the ceiling when closed. Anyway its in a small hallway in our house so I tied a toy to the string on the stairs so that is hangs about a foot to foot and a half from the floor. I initially tied it there for the cats before we even got Reagan but Reagan found it and actually loves it. She'll stand on her back legs grabbing it with her mouth shaking it all around. We used a small fleece cat ball, but you could use whatever toy your pup likes. Just an idea if you have anywhere to hang a toy from. I guess if you really wanted you could get a screw-in hook and hang something in doorframe somewhere. I just suggest having a little bit of room around it cause they, at least Reagan, moves around quite a bit with it. |
I tried the bumble ball and my dogs didn't care for it. That was $12 down the drain! The laser pointer is a big hit though. They also like to play fetch, and we play tag too. I bet my downstairs neighbor LOOOOOVES that! :D |
ok so I took some advice and I went and purchased string and ceiling hooks. My apartment looks a bit like a carnival but Oh my how fun it is!! I took about 5 of their stuffed toys and hung them from the ceiling (I was careful to hang them around the animals so it didn't look too evil) and it is so amazing! Simon is having so much fun trying to get them and watching them swing around everywhere! Hallie is a bit confused but getting in on the action too! I highly recommend this silly idea, it is too fun! |
I must admit even though it was my advice I started laughing just at the thought of walking into a house with tons of stuffed animals hanging down from the ceiling. A man that my husband works with has a lab that he trains for hunting and such. He is constantly training her. He hung a toy (I think it was a duck or something they use to train hunting dogs) in a tree in the back yard so that the dog would even be working when he wasn't at home. I personally believe though that the dogs probably just sleeps all day and looks at the thing even now and then and thinks "hmmm...he's thinks I'm going to play with that well he can play with it". Anyway I'm glad he liked it and you are having so much fun with it. I think Reagan looks like a little bear standing on her back feet playing with it, it really is funny to watch. |
