Leather chew toys?? My puppy seems to gravitate toward leather things, i.e., belts, straps. I've searched to see if leather is a no-no for pups but haven't found a definitive answer. I knew you guys could give me the 411 :) |
I try not to let Sully play/chew on anything that's not HIS toy, etc.....but isnt' rawhide bones a "leather-ish" product? I can understand why they'd get so excited about leather, haha. But man, what an expensive thing to chew up if you let them :p |
This is TOTALLY just my opinion, but I would not allow my dog to chew on leather items. First, I do not recommend leathers used in the production of apparel because they may have used chemicals in the various stages of production (dying process, etc.). Not only that, but I don't want my dog to make an association between his chewing and all "leather" goods. If he thinks that I would allow him to chew on a certain leather item...why wouldn't I allow him to chew on ALL leather items? This can open up a can of worms. I can think of a few things made of leather that you would not want your dog to chew on. Purses (think expensive Hermes or Louis Vuitton purses), Belts, Watch Straps, Shoelaces, Shoes, an expensive jacket, an expensive leather sofa, etc. My best friends' cats and their dog would take a sniff at my belt and some times even take a lick on it. Just give them a rawhide chew... |
