I take Obie everywhere I think I can get away with. He rides in a "Sherpa" bag, and the only people who realize it isn't a big handbag are those who have done the same thing themselves. Obie goes to restaurants, stores, parties, movies, meetings, and is usually perfectly quiet. The only thing that will blow it is the presence of another dog, which he will bark at, and then we are busted. One time I was in a nice restaurant with friends, and Obie started to bark. I realized that he was barking at this own reflection in a glass door, and moved him so he couldn't see it, and he quieted down. I expected that we would be asked to leave, but nothing happened. As we were leaving the restaurant, the waitress came running after me with a small piece of steak, and said "One of the customers couldn't finish this, and said to give it to your little dog." |
That's great that you didn't get in trouble at a restaurant. I've never tried to bring Bentley to a restaurant, but I take him everywhere else. I haven't had any problems grocery shopping as long as he is in his bag. I will have to take a picture of Bentley in his bag. He does so well in it and never makes a peep. If anyone is having trouble bringing their dog with them, you can check to see if your area has a therapy dog program. These are dogs that are trained to go visit nursing homes, schools, etc. and socialize with the residents, students, etc. A dog has to go through a few classes and take a test in order to be a therapy dog, but once the dog passes, he gets a special vest and is allowed in all establishments (this is necessary as it helps them get used to all types of public places and noises). As far as I know there is no size restriction on who can become a therapy dog. The woman who taught Bentley's puppy class also taught the therapy classes and had labs who were therapy dogs. She would take them everywhere with her. |

Dogs are allowed in restaurants in Europe. I don't see why they shouldn't be--if they poop on the floor, or eat out the same dishes as the humans, *those* are the things to have rules against. Some French cafes serve the doggies water in their own doggie bowls. |
kaykos been to duane reade lol ive seen other people with there dogs too |
I belive the reason for pet/dog not being allowed is that some people have serious allergies to animals. They have to be curtious to everyone. |
