Mine do not like the car. They think they are going to the vet | Before moving to Pa. I lived in NY, summers we camped every weekend here in the Poconos Pa. car meant good times. Then I move to Pa. commute to Manhattan via commuter bus, I am gone 14 hours a day, week ends was house work. The only time my pups went in the car was to the groomer and vet. I noticed how hesitant they became when I would say lets go bye bye in the car, there was no excitement anymore. I realized they associated the car with unpleasant things, so, I made it a point on Saturday mornings every week end to take them for a short ride, just 10 or 15 minutes, this way when it was groomer day or vet day they wouldn't know it would be an unpleasant day. I do the same thing with Cody, I'll take him to the banks drive thru, or the pharmacy drive thru. We have cluster mail boxes, they are 1/2 a mile from the house, I take him when I collect my mail. Now that we are on lock down and will be for quite sometime that's about all the car riding he will be doing. No more trips to Home Depot or Loews. So if you want your pups not to dislike the car you have to take them someplace that's not unpleasant for them, even if it's just around the block. |
