Toys for a 15 week old yoorkie? What kinds do you recommend? So I have just gotten my first yorkie ever and I am wondering what toys that yorkies around the age of 15 weeks tend to enjoy. Thanks so much for any suggestions, I appreciate it! :aimeeyork:animal-pa |
Sorry for the typo in the title! I tried editing it out and I guess I can't. |
Anything squeaky! Yorkies love to chase, bat around, chew and "kill" their squeaky toys. When you baby gets a little older, foraging toys are very satisfying to the terrier seeker/hunter/killer instinct bred into them and still going strong. Of course they don't need to kill varmints any more but they still love to feel the thrill of the hunt, so to speak. When they forage for their own food using their nose or skills of figuring how to operate a toy to get a treat or piece of kibble out of it, they show a deep-seated satisfaction and ready ability to settle down afterward. Given a preference, a bowl of just warmed food or three foraging toys filled with dry kibble, Tibbe will always choose the foraging toys to get his meals. Thank you so much! I'll make sure to get her some squeaky toys soon! |
It seems to me that different pups like different toys. Some like squeaky, some don't. Some like fuzzy, some don't. Some like nylabones, some don't. My suggestion would be to buy a variety of toys and see which one he/she likes to play with and then go get more like that one. And watch how they play with them. We can't give Max little squeaky stuffed animals because he sits down and wants to chew the eyes, buttons, etc off. We don't want him choking on those parts |

Thank you so much! I wonder if they might like rope toys as well like I know that some other dog breeds enjoy. |
Oh I never tried those yet no, I did find her a soft toy with a tennis ball inside of it though, a bit hard to describe. I'll be going to pick out more toys on Tuesday though. |
Bonnie likes things that squeak and things that crinkle. She also loves Kong toys and for stuffed squeaky toys I get the ones with chew guard because there aren't any eyes to bite off. They just have fabric for eyes. She also loves to fetch the little yellow tennis balls but you have to make sure to pick them up as soon as you stop playing or they will chew the yellow fuzz off the ball. |

We have actually stayed away from the squeakers all together. They love playing with the rubber toys. We just got a couple of rubber toys from the gift exchange that they are always playing keep away from each other with. Max's favorite is a small rubber ball that he always wants to fetch. |

I agree with buying a variety of toys and observing, and also the note about safety. My boys like soft toys, but I have to watch them to make sure they do not get stuffing out. Max got a little stuffing out today. Highly unusual for him. I sewed a lot of my toys for them using a tightly woven polyester blend that the dogs can't get their teeth into. Max also likes Kongs. He does not like balls of any kind and will not let his brother play with them. |

It worked really well for me to start off with ~5 toys because Scottie never ever, to date (he's now 1 yr and 2 months), bit/tore up anything that wasn't his! I am so happy and proud (my previous dog bit and chewed up everything, but I didn't know better then) :D Anyway, I found that Scottie didn't like Nylabones as much at first, guess he wasn't teething yet. But later, at 8 months, he started to love it. So don't worry if your puppy doesn't seem to like certain toys at first, with variety, they may like them later on. Just make sure to only leave them with durable toys they can't ingest while they're alone. Also, I found that bully sticks or any of those dried up cow ears etc always gave Scottie diarrhea, so I stay away from those. A good edible chew toy I recently discovered is the Himalyan Cheese Chew stick. But you probably don't need that yet since yours is still a pup. |
