What kind of toys?? Hello, I will be getting a little female yorkie puppy at the beginning of the new year and am very excited... My question is what are the best kinds of toys for a new puppy? Thanks for any info :) |
Stuffed/unstuffed toys, I'd avoid the hairy ones because Lola pulls the hair out Jw butterfly, I found it at petsmart, it's hard plastic Braid some fleece |

Acorn's favorites are those little kong animals, extra small! The duck is her absolute favorite because it has a little hair on top. They're about $5-$6 at petsmart. She also loves anything with legs and arms. Her crab toy is another favorite! |
We love fleece strips- knotted, braided- even dampened and frozen (great for teething!) The other is infant toys (from church/ yard sales) they are made so well and washable- usually with a jingle,crinkle or squeaker inside! |

Really depends on the pup. Many are toy destroyers, while others do well with just about anything. Max loves his Extreme Kong treat dispenser, the black one, but Teddy has learned how to rip the top off of it. I can't let Max have it unsupervised anymore. I sewed a bunch of ugly soft toys and put squeakers in that I bought at the pet store. Both of my boys love them and can't destroy them. Many people rave about (wish I had thought of this :D) Fugly Friends: Fugly Friends by fuglyfriend on Etsy They come with or without stuffing, and they are very durable. We also like Ty Bow Wow beanie babies, but they are getting harder to find. Best wishes with your new baby! |
I've gone thru so many different balls.....mine prefers the soft nubby kind that squeaks ....and she loves to tug, I found out when she grabbed the string of her crate door and tried dragging it across the floor! Mind you she is a tiny and was only 12 weeks!so I got some wide elastic and tied a good "grabby" toy to it on one end , other end I tied it to stairway banister or sturdy chair back. She loves it. That is her favorite thing to play with. She pulls let's go and it goes flying, grabs it shakes the heck out of it and starts all over again....releases some of that energy. |
A mini tennis ball is a must. Soft toys, hard toys, tug/rope toys . . you can even take a used sock and tie a knot in the middle and use as a chew toy. Been using those since we were kids and they are free. Be sure to get all sorts to she has something to teeth on to help her loose those baby teeth. |

Congratulations on your new addition. While there are alot of toys out there, I think one of the most important things you can do is prepare yourself and your family for your new addition. A highly recommended book by top Dog Behaviourists is "Before and After Getting Your Puppy" by Ian Dunbar. It's a very easy read and I really wish I had read it before we got our Yorkies. |
