Toys for Adult Yorkie??? I have been reading many threads here, so much good advice and info. Now I am wondering if anyone can give me advice. My 7 yr. old, Ginger, has only been with me since last November and came to me with a few clothes and collar and leash. She now has just about everything to keep her happy and well fed. However, no toys!!! I don't know what to offer her as the price of some toys keeps me from just experimenting with different ones. Ginger is not very active, maybe because I am not either; having spent many months recovering from fractured arms and messed up knees due to an accident. She will walk with me when the weather permits and I have watched her 'run' when we are outdoors. Otherwise, she is content to lay by my side when I am on the computer, reading a book, etc. The only time that I have witnessed her playful side is when I offer her a small treat and she chases it around and actually tosses it in the air. Fun to watch. But I do not want to keep giving her treats all day long now, do I???;) lol Any suggestions from any of you would be greatly appreciated. :D |
We use Cheerios for treats... they're small and less filling. As for toys, I'd try a few different kinds from the dollar store to see what she likes, then invest in the better ones. |
The toys I'd buy would be the tried & true ones I pack when we go somewhere: 1). a latex squeaky toy (her fav thing to play fetch with) 2). a Skinneeez toy (her fav thing to shake & play tug with) 3). a fabric toy that holds a water bottle inside it (fav thing the play in one place with & she loves the crackling noise it makes) 4). Cuz toy (ball with feet so it bounces & rolls a bit, but the feet stop it from rolling a lot so it doesn't get lost under furniture like a regular round ball.) 5). a Kong to put treats in (smear peanut butter or greek yogurt inside) |
My two love real infant toys, mostly from yard and church sales (5 for $1 !) The cloth toys, squeek and crinkle and are made so well and washable. We also use fleece strips cut from old throws or sweatshirts braided or tied in knots. They chewed the fuzz off tennis balls so we found some smooth racquetballs. |
Mine really loves the Kong squeezz jel toys-especially the pig. Mouth sized, easy to squeek, impossible to destroy (so far) and very erratic bounce that causes Huey to run, jump and twist in an attempt to catch it. http://www.kongcompany.com/products/for-dogs/squeezz/ I bought ours at Petsmart. We have the pig, hippo and dumbbell. |
Thank you...:) Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. Now I just have to drive to the nearest town and check out what is available. There is an Orscheln Home and Farm store that does have a pet food and supply section so I am sure that they will have some of what has been suggested here. Again, thank you so much.:) |
My RIP Zoey would happily sleep with small catnip scented cat toys but never played with them. But heaven forbid someone tried to touch her toys! Lucy could care less about toys. Cozy will play a little with toys. Roxy is the toy queen. She is also a lean, mean retrieving machine. |
