Should I buy a toy? My Yorkie 4 month old pup, Jax gets into any and everything he can possibly get into! He keeps chewing my baby brothers pasifires, bottles, getting into the trash can and etc. I'm not sure if he is doing this because he might be teething or what. He has some toys but he still gets into everything! But I don't know what I need to do in order for him to stop doing this! Has anyone had/have a yorkie pup that has done this? And what did you do in order for them to stop doing this? I would greatly appreciate your help!! |
yes get some toys for teething he is probably teething and it feels good to chew.http://www.petco.com/product/108905/...t=OnSiteSearch you can also go to pet smart or pet co. and ask what they suggest for teething. |
My pup is doing this too; it's driving me insane. She's chewing/biting EVERYTHING, the carpet, hair she finds on the floor, any and all fabric, etc. I'm trying to keep the floors clean, but there's only so much I can do. I made a thread on this forum about teething toys. They help to an extent, but a lot of times she refuses to be re-directed. |
Oh yes, he's getting around teething age. You can give and encourage him to gnaw on ice cubes, many companies actually sell teething toys, ... You can even take his favorite toys and freeze them (I would imagine the rubber - like toys would be best for this) so that when he chews his gums will feel soothed. I've also heard you can take a rag or towel, tie a knot in it, and freeze that for them to chew on. Let me see if I can find a website with more information ... Top Seven Teething Remedies Toy example: Puppy Teething Stick - KONG **Note: I would not use the Kong brand paste. I would stray away from that -- use a good quality peanut butter if need be (organic would be best, but I'm sure that regular is better than the Kong paste anyway). ^^ Hope this helps! <3 Good luck with your pup! |
My pup will chew on anything. from clothes, to tiny bits of paper to even the carpet. Thankfully he's slowed it on most of these. His favorite toys are squeakers and plush ones that sound like they are filled with crinkly paper or the one you put a plastic bottle inside. Oh and the kong rubber toys, they have some you can stuff with treats too. Also flossie/bully sticks. Main thing is just to stick with correcting the behavior and give hime one of his toys to play with instead. |
My bedroom trash can solution Okay, this will sound strange! When Taffy was a puppy, he loved to sleep on my bed while I went to the grocery store. He also would wake up and he soon discovered he could tip over the trash can and shred all the paper, etc. Well, one day I took my trash can out of the room, and looped a plastic grocery bag over the back of my bedroom door handle, where it is almost unseen! The bag is too high for Taffy! I find the height and size very handy for me...no bending! I also like this behind-the-door-bag, because I NEVER have to 'empty' and reclean my trash can...I just tie a knot with the 2 bag-handles and take the bag downstairs to put into the garage garbage cans. I keep a few of these grocery bags in my closet, and just recycle them one at a time behind my door! Nobody sees them! Taffy is now 3 yrs old & doesn't bother the den's trash can downstairs as he's always with us, and he has forgotten all about 'trash cans' in favor of his toys! My bedroom 'trash' now goes unmolested, and the bags are easier and more sanitary as they aren't reused like my room's blue trash can. |
We wrote a blog about this on our website a few weeks ago and have lots of different toys on our site that may help. Teething Puppies – Gizmo's Dog Shop We have a mutt Cici who started grinding with her back teeth when she was getting them and we lost a lot of pillows, blankents, shoes and clothes because she would grind off whole chunks. The rope toys really help especially if they want to grind. as long as you train them that one is okay and the other isn't you should be fine. |
