Chasing Toys?
 

Hope it's the right place for asking help. Well, I am looking a dog chasing toy that offers exercise and fun at same time. I already have a treadmill but my boy in not interested in that. I also tried flirt pole with no success. Any recommendations?

I don't know about anytning that would sustain activity like a treadmill, but my little one will chase a toy as many times as I will throw it. One he (and I) love is a little squeaky pig made by kong. It bounces in every direction (ona hard surface) with no way of knowing where it will go. We also have the hippo, but the pig bounces more erratically. He loves both. They are perfectly sized to fit in his mouth-he is 7.5 lbs- and they get slippery when slobbery so he can be running and it pop out of his mouth and start bouncing around again. He never gets tired of them.

What about using a laser pointer for him to chase? Or a tennis ball thrower :D, that'd be funny.

That Kong sounds great! I checked online at PetSmart and Petco, but neither sells it. Did you order it online? I think Ian would love it, but he's rather rough on toys that squeak. The squeak is usually history within the week.

I actually bought both at petsmart in Chattanooga. They were in with all the other kong toys.

Anyone try that thing they advertise on television called a Cat's Meow? And what about those balls with squirrel's tales that used to be all over China town? A remote control car?

My yorkies loves chasing toys balls and squeaky toys. While choosing toys make sure about the size.

The wonderful thing about most Yorkies is that they naturally LOVE to chase all kinds of toys and will usually bring them right back to their human to throw over & over again. So, when it's cold or rainy outside, your Yorkie can get plenty of exercise right inside your house--this doesn't work as well for big dog breeds!
My little guy is 5 1/4 pounds...our vet says he is a perfect size for walks in the country lanes where we live. His favorite toys for "fetching" are the small/petite-size, yellow tennis balls by "Hyper-Pet"...they are lighter in weight than most brands, bounce like crazy & are strong! Taffy will ignore the 2 other heavier balls of the exact same size that friends have given to him; he will dig through his 8" high x 20" long "toy basket" until he finds one of those Hyper-Pet yellow balls, and then he carries it to lay beside me on the sofa, all set to play Fetch! **Now, I am lazy at age 63, so I leave space beside my hip for Taffy to stand up beside the sofa and deposit the ball...he will keep up this game, running in all directions for @ 15 tosses. And, I always tell him how "great" he is to find the ball!! Be careful not to overdo fetching if your Yorkie is old or tiny!
If your Yorkie knows basic commands, (I was brave enough to take Taffy to 2 simple obedience classes at our nearby PetSmart Store) when you can also tell him to lay "Down" and leave the ball there on the floor when he lays down. Taffy knows "down" & "leave-It"--he really loves the challenge of having to wait while I count softly to 10 - then, I throw the ball & call out,"Fetch it!" He takes off like a little rocket! By the time I count up to 8, he is actually quivering with excitement & anticipation! I also vary this routine by telling him to Stay & then throwing the ball...he has to wait right where he is lying while I count again, and he can see the ball over in the other room the whole time. This is the hardest for him to do!
His next favorite chase-toy is a 9" long, stuffed grey elephant that is covered in soft, nubby threads. He loves to chase & fetch this toy too, but he will also "shake" it so hard that its legs are flopping like mad in all directions...my husband says Taffy is trying to "kill it"...trying to break its neck, Gross!! It is his favorite of all his stuffed toys. (Chewing it also is good for cleaning his teeth!)
Now, I also think that Taffy's "toy basket" is the best thing for everyone in the family! He has about 10 toys inside it, and it is just the right height for him to hunt through on his own! He will even stand in it, with his two front feet inside the basket, while he searches! We always leave it in the corner bedside his small, metal dog crate in our den. (He only uses this crate for daytime naps; we leave its door open!) The last person to go to bed just drops the 3-5 toys that Taffy has taken-out back inside. We have also caught him putting a toy back inside to swap it for another one! Ha! (If you get your dog a toy basket or box be sure it is low enough for your own Yorkie to get into on his own, and that is tightly woven so parts of toys do not get stuck between the woven slats. If you are lucky, you may find a nicely woven basket for sale with a "cloth-liner" already inside it! Lots of bathroom departments in stores carry these cloth-lined baskets! But, be sure it's low enough for your Yorkie to really use on his own!

Before at home, Sharley doesn't like balls but one time she played with other dogs in the park chasing their ball which in turn a good exercise for her. Starting then she loves ball now since she's teething at the same time so we found this treat dispensing ball that lasts check it out StarMark Everlasting Fun Ball Medium 2.75" we got at discounted $6.
Since it is hot her in FL, she plays with it on her mini pool, yes it floats!

Will he play fetch and bring a toy back to you?

I like the small Frisbees but Gizmo usually breaks the plastic up into pieces which I don't like. Then we found these Rope Ring Frisbee Dog Toy – Gizmo's Dog Shop its a rope and durable fabric so he can't break pieces off and it flies pretty good too. Ball tossers are also one that we use a lot.

LOL..... You have a Yorkie and you're looking for ways to increase his activity? My guys will run after toys until they drop

So keep it simple .... Contraptions aren't needed its like when you were little and your parents got you an expensive toy and all you did was play with the box

The cheapest "toy" Taffy likes is an "empty plastic grocery
(He just loves their "sound" and the "light weight" of these bags.)
But, you the Owner must be careful!
You must Stay Right With Your Dog if he plays with any bag!! Taffy shakes bags very vigorously and runs happily around carrying them.
'BUT, when he finally jumps on one with his front paws and tries to pull on the bag with his teeth to start "tearing" it into pieces, THAT is when his bag gets taken away & put into the trash! (We switch over to an regular doggie toy, and off he goes finally playing with it instead.)
I do not want him swallowing any pieces if he tries 'shedding' a bag, whether it's plastic or paper. So, I can't let him "keep" these little bags. They are only a "play toy" for about 3-5 minutes. He really loves them for their novelty!
Hint** I also quickly Snip Off the two plastic Bag Handles with scissors before he ever gets the bag! Handles are thin, and I figure Taffy could rip off a piece. So, he only gets the 'main bag' to romp with on the floor.
Yes, I know there are "crinkly sounding toys". Taffy does have a "flat orange bear" that has a very crinkly-sounding body, but he still loves a "Light weight grocery bag"--just a couple of times every few months.
PLEASE: Remember to Always Supervise your dog with Any Toy! Snip-off the Thin Handles of any Bags. *Don't Leave the Pup Alone on the Floor with a Bag!
