String-a-toy About a few months back, I took one of my pup's favorite toys (teething rattler ball), put an elastic string on it and hung it up for him to play with..HE LOVED IT!...This was one of the things he played with early in the morning, mid day and late at nite before lights out. It made a lot of noise and gave him a run time for at least an hour. Here is the problem, today the string somehow tangled and twisted around his tooth..OMG:eek:. The good news, I was sitting right there when he started to whine. It took about a minute and a fight to get this off his tooth. Right after that I cut the toy down. Now its late and he keeps jumping up in the area where I had his toy strung up. I've taken him back to his toys to show him the toy but he doesn't want to play with it. Here is my problem...I really want to string it back up but am fearful that this problem will reoccur. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or should I just leave it alone. |
Personally, I would not hang anything like that just out of fear of something similar or worse than what you described happening. I do tend to be paranoid about things, but I'd be worried about a nail or even an I.D. tag getting caught on anything that's hanging. Just my opinion & glad he's doing ok now.:) |
How about letting him play with it only when he is fully supervised? As soon as you can't watch him anymore, put the toy up. Snicker's favorite thing to do is play fetch with little Kong balls. They are like tiny tennis balls, so we don't want him chewing on them. He only gets them during designated playtime with us. |
Thanks for the response ladies! Generally, I am around when he plays with the strung toy..absolutely no tags on, so I did restring it differently. I could not stand the fact that he kept jumping up looking for it. As of today, I put it up when I am unable to be around. He has several toys but gets bored quickly. So, I went and brought a new toy called (I think) tug-a-jar. You put treats in the jar, seal it on one end and the other is a hanging rope that pops in and out as he pulls and toss. At some point during playtime, it drops a treat...great invention but geez it is noisy. |
