Recommend a toy for my Holly? I've bought my baby girl Holly just about every type of toy. She occasionally plays with a squeaky toy, but only while I play as well. And that's the only time she will ever play with her toys! Our other dogs play great with them, but Holly doesn't seem to enjoy the ones she has. |
You might try a kong or other interactive toy with a treat of some kind stuffed inside. Or a bully stick. Don't give up on toys that you play with her with. She obviously likes it, and you can use that toy drive as a reward in training. For that, I like fleece rope toys with a squeaky in them. Mine LOVE playing with me with them, but I find they also like playing with them by themselves. |
Thor only plays with his toys if I play with him. He's not even that big on chewing. It might just be her personality. |

Jackson VERY rarely plays with toys unless I am playing with him. The only toy he ever played with by himself was a Cuz Ball. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...z-dog-toy.html |
Lulu loves kong tennis balls (the kind with sqeakers inside), her kong, & her new soft, stuffing free toy from WalMart. However, she prefers sticks, leaves, bugs, etc... ;) |
Thanks everyone.. Atleast I know it's not only my Hollybear that doesn't like playing with her toys. I was wondering what a Bully stick is? I heard people talking about it. Also, I tried Holly with Kong toys... She gives up about 5 minutes in, lol. She's too spoiled. |
I'm not sure I'm allowed to say what a bully stick is in a public forum. :p What Bully Sticks dog treats are made from, product analysis All I know is my dogs love 'em. Make sure they're produced in the U.S. Some brands tend to stink more than others. |
Oh... Our household is completely vegan. We would never use that, LOL. But...wow! |
My furbabies love bully sticks. I just don't think about what they are made of. |

It grossed me out at first but it's really not a big deal. They just look like sticks off a tree. And every dog I've met goes crazy for them. I couldn't live without bully sticks, they keep Jackson busy when I can't pay attention to him. :) |

We had a Yorkie a while back that we rescued when he was 2yrs old. It never made much sense to us, but he was not interested in playing for a long time. We finally gave up on trying to convince him that playing was fun. Then a year or so later someone came over with a toy she bought for her Boston Terrier. When she demonstrated the squeaking sound it made, our lil guy went crazy over it. After that he enjoyed squeaky toys as long as someone else was playing with him. Even though his was a case of getting used to us and learning to be a puppy, there is still a chance Holly will learn to like toys- whether they be store-bought or sticks, bugs, and leaves. Just give her time :) |
Our dogs usually eat pre-prepared vegetable concoctions that I make, or V-dog. The things that they put in dog food are actually the meat left over from animals that are taken for human consumption. So basically the parts like the head, feet, tails, etc. are put into dog food for our babies to eat. If I wouldn't eat the nasty rotting carcass of another animal, I wouldn't make my babies eat it! They get alot of energy from vegetables without being all bloated afterward from eating the "dog chow". Sometimes too much energy. LOL What’s Really in Pet Food But I listened to a poster above and bought a Cuz toy, she absolutely LOVES it. It must be how soft the rubber is, and how the squeak is so loud or something. It's crazy, she almost never plays so I was in shock haha. |
My dogs love the squirrels in the tree trunk toy. You stuff the squirrels in the trunk and they have to get them out. Doesn't take them long to learn. I bought the Junior size, but they sell replacement squirrels for the regular size. I could use some more squirrels. They are my dogs favorite toys -- just the right size and easy for them to squeak. Junior Small Hide a Squirrel Puzzle Dog Toy for Small Dogs It also comes with bees in a hive, birds in a birdhouse, and maybe something else. Any talking toys are a hit with mine: Talking Dog Toys They had a monkey that made monkey sounds that they LOVED! They only recently dug the voicebox out of their monkey. I need to find another one. I made a score at Walmart one year -- they had these toys in the kids toy department that you slam and they say all sorts of things. They marked them down to a dollar each -- I bought like 20 of them and shared with family dogs! The furkids LOVED those things. I also bought a bunch of the old Taco Bell talking chihuahuas on ebay. My pups seem to love any toy that makes unique sounds or talks. They love squeakers too but they really go crazy for talking or monkey sounds. :) |
I haven't tried talking toys yet. I'll look around and try find some. I know whenever our cellphones ring, the songs or noises it makes, makes Holly do the head twitching thing to the side. It's SO cute. A talking toy would probably do the same. |
