Chew toys... should I take this away So Harley has found his new love... it's his little Harley Davidson motorcycle... however he's discovered it is chewable (it's a hard plasticy/rubber squeak toy) When I gave it to him, he had the handlebar and windshield chewed off in less than 30 minutes... I was constantly plucking rubber pieces out of his mouth. So my first thoughts were... take it away. well I don't leave him with it unsupervised... but then I realized something... He chews the rubber mats on his grid the same way, and spits the pieces out... cause I always find little rubber chunks all over his room. So I got to thinking, as long as I'm with him can he have this toy... because I can get it out if he chokes on a piece right? Thoughts? He loves it sooo much, I'd hate to take it away for good, but at the same time, he's my baby and I don't want him hurt... and I am in no way considering leaving him unsupervised with it... only hard toys he gets unsupervised are his kong and rubbery chew-proof toys. |
You should take it away right away!! The mats too if he is chewing on them. He might not ingest all of what he chews but I bet he still swallows some of it and he could get sick and need surgery if it impacts his bowels. Also, some of those rubber squeakies are made in China and the plastic has toxic chemical and lead in the paint, so I would be careful and be safe than sorry. Good Luck. |
Good to know... unfortunately the mats are part of his toilet. I'm working on rebuilding it, but I have to wait for new mats the come in, I'm going to try and clamp them down on the new toilet so he can't chew. So I can't take that away, I keep putting bitter apple on them, but the little booger likes it... They toy has made its way to the trash... thanks |
