The cutest chew toy ever?! Hello everyone, I'm bringing my new baby home next month and I want to get her a new toy (her breeder is providing me with her current toys, bedding, crate, and lots more... thankfully!). My fav that I have seen so far is that super long stuffed dog that is even on those Mastercard commercials (sorry, I don't remember the name of the toy) but anyway, it's so cute and I think she would love it. If you know what I'm talking about, is it too big for a 16 week old Yorkie, or does the size not matter? Also, is there anything on it like button eyes or anything that she could tear off and choke on? |
I think you are thinking of the loofa dog... they actually come in all different sizes, the smallest size should be just fine for a yorkie puppy... I have had them in varying sizes over the years and no matter how big it is the pups will just pick it up and drag it around :) |
Louis just got a loofa dog for his birthday. There aren't any buttons on it. It is almost as big as him, but he doesn't care. He carries it around with him!:D |
long dog yes my baby has one of these long stuffed dogs got it at walmart he loves it. it to is bigger then him, he drags it everwhere...washes and drys good. |
Thats a good starter toy... I wouldn't spend a lot of $$ on toys...I have gone through sooo many toys with Lola. She will destroy every toy. She loves squeaky toys and loves to find a way to get the squeaker out. I only buy the toy that I find in the clearance section... but again every dog is different |
The first toy we bought Soph was an 88 cent orange squeaky bone from Wal-Mart. It was pretty much the only toy she'd play with up until this last year. I actually bought several of them once we saw that she wasn't interested in other toys, but she wouldn't really play with them either. She knew the difference between them and would only play with "her" bone. Luckily she doesn't like to tear stuff up, would rather play fetch with it. We've still got that first toy, kinda ratty looking but still in one piece. Now she's also got a mouse (from the cat section at Petsmart don't tell) that's motion activated and squeaks when she moves it. She throws that thing all over the place. We're on our third one because unfortunately there's no way to replace the battery in the noisemaker and she's worn them out. |
Anything is a toy I use old socks and sprinkle it with cinammon or nutmeg. If you roll it into a tight ball, you can stuff it with treats they like. It will take an hour or two for your puppy to get at the treat. I bought cotton glove liners at Walmart and fill a finger with 2-3 kibbles, and the thumb with a meat treat. I roll up the wrist into a ball and it resembles an mini cow udder with the fingers sticking out, some filled with treats, others empty. The cotton is porous and they will gnaw the treat out but it wont wreck the cotton. I simply alternate gloves by washing the other hand one day and then filling it. This is only in conjunction with his rope pulling toy.. They have o have one of these as well |
Definitely a Loofa!! Scruffs likes the 12" ones, and he is 7 lbs. I would get the 6" ones (they look more like 4"), for a puppy. How much does your puppy weigh? Sounds like you are getting her from a great breeder! Scruffs pulls off the ears sometimes, but just watch her and it will be fine. |

I bought my 5 month old baby, Max, one of the six inch ones. The only thing I would caution you about is the tail. The one that I bought had a tail that was sewn on and Max chewed and chewed until it was nearly falling off. Needless to say, his toy got it's tail "docked".:D |

Your puppy will love it's new toy.. Our Jack only a puppy @ 3 3/4 lbs 7" tall by 11" long has toys much bigger than him and like everyone has said. He just drags or carry's them all around. Ever since he was a very tiny baby he loved this squeaky carrot.. Already on his 2nd one because he would chew the sewn green tops off but that's what they do; CHEW... LOL We found that if you can find a store that sells the cow tails and bully sticks they seem to love then and chew on them for hours. The cost is like only $2.00ea for hours of chew for your puppy and it's good for them.... :animal36 |
Good Idea Baloo loves his "bobo", thats what I've known them to be. The long stuffed dog. It was his first toy and he loves it still. Nothing on it he can choke on. Baloo loves stuffed animals that squeak. Also for chewing, the Nylabone. He started to really chew on it when he was about 4 months. He loves it. I highly recommend it. |
