Grunting RAT! Best toy ever! Chewy has litterally resorted to sitting on the ground and twitching next to this toy. Since we got it, he has cared for little, if anything, else. I have never seen him smile so much, for so long. It's a funky rat-thing with a grunting sound, a sqeaker in the nose, and a long tail with a squeaker in the end of it. It also has rattling sounds when it's moved. Chewy has not stopped humping / dragging / chewing / throwing / pawing at / bringing to me / death-shaking this thing since we got it. I have sewriously never seen him have so much fun with a toy! He has made sounds that I have never heard before. I looked it up online: http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products.../Itemdy00.aspx The one we have is about the size of your average Yorkie itself. I actually wanted a toy that Chewy could hump to get out some of his agression in a neutral way, but it's a little small for my 17 pounder. This is PERFECT for the average Yorkie though. the grunt noise makes them go WILD, and the grunting rat seems to really appeal to our rat-killing dog's natures! http://www.thatpetplace.com/MainPro/Itemdy00.aspx <-- see also the grunting marmot...I'm thinking of adding this to our collection. |
That was a great description of the toy, Hamoth, and Chewy's reaction. I'm still laughing. It sounds like the ultimate toy. I can't believe all the sounds it makes. Eddie is afraid of a bumbleball, but I'll bet he'd love the rat! Thanks for the tip. |
If that doesn't sound like the most ultimate toy! Adding one rat to Teddy's X-mas list... |
Lol, just monitor them at first! Chewy has already ripped off one of its ears and began pulling stuffing from a hole in the but, and he's punctured the grunting part (I can fix it and sew it back up). It's just REALLY funny to me....he went AFTER this thing like nothing else. Just a reminder, Chewy's big big big for a Yorkie, so I think the toy will be more durable for yer little ones. But just in case, I'll add that if your dog murders every single one of their stuffed toys to rip out and destroy the squeeker, then this one will not be immune to that. ;) I intends to start taking crime-scene photos when I come into the living room and discover a sad deflated corpse with a gaping wound leaking stuffing all over the place. |

Update: Grunting Rat has had 4 major surgeries now. Last night he ripped off an ear. I sewed the hole shut. That same night, Chewy used his teeth like a seam ripper and opened the hole, and then pulled out lots of the stuffing (going for all the noise makers). I took it from him and sewed it shut (after putting back the stuffing). This morning the tail was removed, the nose un-stuffed, and the grunting box taken out and torn neatly in half. I put a new bag on the grunting box, stuffed it back in, sewed the tail back on. This afternoon, the other ear came off, and a seam was torn from one eye, to the middle of the back. The grunter was again removed and the bag part was sliced to ribbons. I replaced the bag with a zip-lock, stuffed the grunter back in, and sewed the gaping hole shut. It is so sad, it has no ears anymore! lol. Note that I'm not blaming the construction for this thing falling apart. My dog is a monster and has been loving this thing to DEATH. Now it has these jagged stitches all in it, no ears, a ziplock bag for a heart, and looks utterly pittyful. Why does Chewy always hurt the ones he loves? :D This afternoon |

That sounds like the ULTIMATE toy for our little ones !! Our order is going in, THANKS for the idea, Christmas is going to be FUN ! FUN ! FUN ! :D |
Legend of the grunting rat lives 3 Attachment(s) Eddie's rat arrived today, and he hasn't put it down. He didn't want to go outside and pee, he didn't want to go for his walk, and if not for a couple key rescues missions, I have no doubt the poor rat would already be dead. Eddie has a gift for extracting squeakies from toys. |
I just ordered 2 , should be lots of fun ! :D |
And the winner is ... 1 Attachment(s) Eddie! Note the fur on his mouth! |
Too cool--gotta get one for my darlings, too. Sounds like they'll have fun "killing" it! |
1 Attachment(s) Y'alls descriptions of the mutilation...uh, loving that is being perpetrated upon these poor defenseless...um, toys are bringing tears to my eyes. I'm laughing so hard, it hurts! :yelrotflm Unfortunately, this particular toy would be a big no no at my place. I have a colony of five ratties, ranging in size from my almost 2 lb Siamese named Charles all the way down to my petite little 320 gram Black Hoodie named Robin. Right now, Jasmine (the Yorkie) seems to be only mildly interested in the ratties - but that could certainly change if I brought home a stuffed one for her to chew on! Here is a pic of Charles. |
My apologies, A.C.! How rude of us to be allowing our Yorkies to maul replicas of your beloved pets. If it helps, I'll start telling him it's a wolverine, not a rat. Reminds me of first week of obedience class, and a woman with a huge dog asked if it was a problem that her dog killed a rabbit that week. I piped in "Only if the rabbit look like Eddie." Thanks for posting the picture. It made me laugh. |
