Hyper Yorkie and hides everything We've had Jacob for a week now. He is always very hyper, he hardly ever sits or lies down, does anyone know how to get him to sit or lie down for at least a little while? I thought about putting him for a time out in his crate, but he just cries the whole time. We tried using his crate at night, but he just cries the whole time. Another thing he does is hide everything he gets (bones, food, dog biscuits). Does anyone's Yorkie do this? |
Is he a puppy??? If so...that's pretty typical of a puppy :) |
We have had Samson since he was 9 weeks old and he is now almost 7 months and he is still a ball of energy. On the weekends I have him out of his crate all day playing and stuff so sometimes he'll take a nap with me in the afternoon for about 40 minutes. During the week when we are at work he is in his crate so from the time we get home until we go to bed he is a maniac!! Maybe try taking him for a long walk, if you have the time, and get him running around to tire him out. He probably will want to sleep instead of just being calm and still awake but at least you might get a little rest!! |
Chachi is hyper and yes he hides with his toys or treats. I agree with taking him on more walks. The exercize is good and Chachi loves to take walks. |
Reagan hides all of her bones. In fact she hides them behind the pillows on the couch then they eventually seep down into the cushions where she can't get them and she has a cow. She will dig and dig at the couch trying to get at it, its a wonder we even have couches left. For the energy I would just try to wear him out, long walks, or maybe a long game of fetch. If it keeps up agility may be something to look into. I don't do it but a few people on here do and they and their dogs seem to love it. It seems like a really good thing for the dogs. |
i recommed lots of fetch and tug of war. i prefer indoor exercise. (lots of mosquitoes here and it's been raining) your puppy will probably entertain himself for a while with some favorite toys. i also agree --when they are pent up for a while they go nuts when you get home. after my little man was potty trained i was able to leave him out and that calmed him considerably. good luck to you! |
The consistent crate training will get easier and the cries should stop, patience is the key. Lots of play time is great, but also just as importantly is quiet time. Pups need to mellow out after vigours play. Many Yorkie pups are hyper, it's a big world out there they want to explore. Maturity helps tremendously.. Have fun! :p |
Have you tried a massage? No...not for you...for Jacob! Seriously...Riley is almost 5 months old and he can be going full speed but all I have to do is get him to come to me and give him a massage and he's done. I do this at bedtime...Jo tries to lay down and Riley thinks it's playtime. I gently rub his ears, the top of his head and his shoulders and he's out like a light...works everytime! |
I do massage on Simon too! Not to scare you but Simon is 2 and still as hyper as a puppy! I get him to calm down by massaging his ears and his back! The crate training just takes time and patience! Good Luck to you and your baby! |
