Birthday party suggestions, please! I never imagined myself being the type of person to throw a dog a birthday party. NEVER. But, Sully's 1st birthday is coming up (August 8th) and I have found myself getting more and more excited by the day!!!! Everybody needs a reason to get together and celebrate, RIGHT? So, I've decided to "throw a birthday party" for Sully on Sunday, August 7th! (All of you are invited too, of course, LOL!) :cake: I'll invite my friends & their dogs. (But very few of my friends here in town have dogs.) :star: But I need your help! I can't make up my mind and I want this to be a lot of fun for everyone! So give me your best birthday party suggestions! 1. Am I better off suggesting that we have the party at the park, my house (I have a nice back yard) or at the lake? (The lake is more fun/better view but I can't make pina coladas at the lake, so, hmm...) 2. Cute/simple party favors? 3. Something simple I could bake/cook anything for the dogs? ---- PS. :giftbox: I have decided to get Sully either a Bumble Ball or a Hide-a-Squirrel for his birthday...but I haven't bought either yet. I can only afford to get one of them. Which do you think? |

That's so funny that Prudence is just 4 1/2 mo. old and you're already thinking about her birthday! LOL. Watch out, it will come faster than you think! I wish I knew Sully's littermates and could invite them, that would be sooooo cute! |

Definately you should have a birthday party for him! Its his big day! Cant wait until i can celebrate Pudgy's first birthday. We have a doggy bakery here in seattle. They make all kinds of goodies for dogs. Maybe you could see if you could get him a cake if you have one where you live! |

The Hide-A-Squirrel looks cute, and since he seems like he likes spying and stuff... ;) If it's mainly for the dogs, outside would be best for them to run around and have more fun (unless you have a big yard!). Yoda usually gets a big hamhock (no salt added, just boiled) on his birthday, as that's his ABSOLUTE favorite food in the world! Here's some links to YT threads about homemade doggy treats, let us know whatcha decide to do, and we're excited to see pictures/videos of the big day! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=cake+recipes http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=cake+recipes http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=cake+recipes |

Oh!!! and I think your apt. or the park sounds good!!! |

Oh parties! yay! we love parties! Well annie loves her hide a bee and hide a turtle to no end... So I would definately say she gives   to that! Maybe for party favors you put little doggie bones/biscuits and maybe those tinie tennis balls and put them in a doggie bag to give to your doggie guests? lvmyyrki (or something like that) had gone to a yappy hour and they serve doggie daquiris there. She said the doggies loved those. Maybe you could make those. Here's the recipe she gave: 1 cup peanut butter 1 cup plain yogurt 1 tbls honey 1 cup water 2 cups ice Blend well and freeze. Makes approximately 10 - ½ cup servings for your dog and his/her friends I bet having the party at your place would be just fine, and more easy! |
|
Here's my idea. Make up games for them to play. Have little doggie prizes for the winners. 1. Relay race- first to get to Mom wins!!! 2. Have a basket of toys. Pre-determine the winning toy. Dump the basket and the dog who picks up the right toy wins!! 3. Doggie Limbo- see who can crawl the lowest under a pole/jump the highest over the pole Maybe have a little baby pool for them to splash around in I'ld have it in your backyard. All party-goers will be safe. And take LOTS of pictures so we can all see the fun!!! |

my dog rusty had one, we're going to have one for tucker too. i think you should get him the hide-a-squirrel. i think you should have the party at your house. thats all i've got, good luck! |

The local Three Dog Bakery near me, offers a b-day party service. http://www.threedog.com/ The price was pretty inexpensive (some price under $100 definitely). You get to host the party there an hour before opening. All dogs get full run of the store. You are encouraged to invite all of your friends (and their dogs). And, your dog gets his own b-day cake! Three Dog Bakery sells lots of treats too, ranging from simple cookies to tarts to cakes. |

For Tuffy's 1st birthday I made banana pupcakes. The dogs loved them! Here's the recipe.. I used banana baby food instead of bananas since I had it on hand. Banana Pupcakes 2 cups Water 2 bananas 1 tsp vanilla 3 cups flour 1 tbsp baking powder 1 egg 3 tbsp honey Heat oven 350 degrees Mash bananas In Bowl Mix all ingrediants WELL Pour into cupcake pans Bake 20 mns. |

A few ideals I had Sparky a puppy shower and here are a few things I did,I got a bone shaped cookie cutter and made choc. chip cookies cut them in a bone shape! We played several games 1st guess the amount of dog bone in a jar,nex i gave every one a piece of paper and pen and let them draw Sparky it could be his face or whole body thenmy kids picked the best one, which was so funny because no one was a great drawer!!I saved those in his scrapbook. I hope this helped!! :D |

:happyboun :thumbs up Alrighty!! So, I checked map quest... as I see it, it will take Bailey and I about 6 hours and 18 mins. to get to the festivities... at about 405.57 miles! Bailey thinks, the park will be fine, He said " Sully will like that", since Bailey is now 1 year and 2 months he is worldy, like that. So,, what else would SUlly like,,, so we can get him a nice gift... And, what time is the party,,, so we know when to leave the house. :D LOL..... wouldn't it be funny if all the YT'ers did show up.... that would be great! I'm sure whatever you decide to do it will be fine with SULLY!! |

Hey when they have union meetings, we can meet in the middle. 3 hours and 9 minutes isn't bad, right? LOL! But as for our party, BRING ON the YT'ers! :p |

You guys are awesome! I am loving everyone's great advice! I am going to definitely take a lot of this into consideration! I sure wish I had more friends with dogs! This won't be a big ordeal like we wish it could be, but we're going to do our best to make it FUN, especially for Sully! |

Don't serve Pina Coladaas, serve: SALTY DOG Ingredients: - 2 oz Vodka - 5 oz Grapefruit Juice - 2 tsp Salt - Lime Wedge - Glassware: Cocktail Glass Shake all the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass. Make little cakes for the humans with 1-2-3 doug (that's the Danish name, you see why :) ) : 100 g sugar. (3,5 ounce) 200 g butter. (7 ounce) 300 g flour. (10,5 ounce) Roll the doug flat and let your fantasy guide you. It's easy to form this into bones, dogheads, paws, tails etc. Bake them for 5 minutes on 200 degrees celcius (392 fahrenheit) You can of course put whatever flavors or spice in them you like, chocolate, vanilla, ginger etc. And use fruit colors or sprinkles to color them up and enhance your motives :) I hope my english was sufficient enough to make you understand :) Good luck, I wish I could be there! |

Val~ That is so cool. I really wish we lived closer, but we willl be there is spirit. I am also planning a party for Hefner and Buddha in the fall since they are only two weeks apart and I hope to include the YTers in SoCal or whoever wants to come!!! .....as well as our yorkie meetup group and our friends and family with dogs. We wil have it at our house most likely or maybe dog beach in Del Mar and this great since you are helping me with this thread. Hefner votes for the Bumbleball! |

I don't really have any suggestions for the birthday party (It sounds REALLY fun though) but I think you should get Sully the Hide-a-Squirrel. It looks like something he would have fun with. For the party favors, I think you should get something small for the dogs at the party and for the people. Like a bone for each dog and something cute for each person. :D |

My "Which Toy?" debate... Here are my thoughts on the "Hide-a-Squirrel" vs. Bumble Ball debate: Sully has many toys, off all sorts, but NOTHING like a Bumble Ball. It would be something different and unique. But would the newness of it wear off? Would he really enjoy playing with it? Hmm...for $13 bucks I want him to really like his new toy. On the other hand, while we were at PetSmart last night, Sully went CRAZY over the Hide-a-Squirrel toy. It fits his terrier instincts to hunt and dig, capture, etc. He just loves it! We already play this type of game by hiding his squeaky newspaper toy under the rug and he digs under there until he finds it, LOL! But...the hide-a-squirrel toy is plush and squeaky, which is his favourite, but he has a ton of other plush, squeaky toys. So the Bumble Ball would be a fun variety for him. So I can't decide b/c I know he'll love the hide-a-squirrel but the bumble ball would be so unique. *sigh* Why am I driving myself crazy debating my dog's birthday present? LOL!!!! |

Ok, this is not a joke, but a serious proposal to save you money and help you get Sully a great gift. Instead of the hide a squirrel, which he will undoubtedly have figured out in no time, show him a treat, then place it under a cup and encourage him to get it out from under the cup. That is great stimulation of his brain! Instead of the bumble ball, give him an empty roll of toilet paper. They are great fun for hours! They roll funny, make noises, can be carried - and best of all, can be "killed" without any consequense. This way you can afford both and will give the dogs the same joy as if you spend your entire fortune on plastic. Fancy toys are for your sake, not the dogs, he doesn't care as long as you love him! :D |

Val, Sounds like Sully is going to have a wonderful Birthday... There was a lady here in town who owns a pug.. It's birthday was coming up and so she put an advertisement in the paper calling all pugs to come and be apart of the fun.. They had games and silly prizes.. like best dressed.. best trick.. smallest, biggest, longest tounge... A girl friend of mine wanted to go but she didnt want to go alone so I went with her... It was sooo darn cute.. They had drawings and such.. but the best part I thought was the Vet that came and spoke on the breed.. He even had a game prepared.. Jeopardy... For every right answer they got a dog bone.. I just thought I would share.. We have never done this ourselves... but it certainly sounds like it would be fun!! We have kept our puppy parties simple here.. The "kids" get new toys and a new outfit and a special cake that my daughter makes... I cant wait to hear what you decide.. Sully is going to have a great day!! Happy Early Birthday Sully!! |

YOUR ADVICE (everyone!) IS GOLDEN! Thank you soooo much!!! 1 Attachment(s) I'm getting exciiiiiiiiited!!!! Here is the invitation that I printed up to give to friends! (And share with all of you, of course.) Also, my husband has looked at the toys and decided that Sully HAS TO HAVE the "Hide-a-Squirrel" I think my husband is more excited about it than Sully is :p |
