Good Recommended Toys? Small stuffed animals are great to play fetch with. I haven't found a mini tennis ball that would work for fetching. My Yorkie isn't so fond of plastic toys (could it be the smell?). What toys would you recommend? |

Flump Time! Higgin's favorite toy is his Flump, a super large (about as big as he is) cotton string ball, sort of like a big pompom. Bought it in WalMart. He wrestles and rolls and tosses and hipchecks that thing and even pushes it across the room backwards with his rump! It's his best friend. Plays with it inside and outside. He really loves all his toys. Something I've learned is that dogs like their own toybox. Higgins had a little wooden box on the sofa in our camper and loved it. Here at home I have a big low basket that I toss all the toys in and both dogs have a great time sorting through it and picking out just the one they want. Several times a day I just toss everything into it, so the house isn't messy all the time. We have LOTS of toys. I mean LOTS of toys! |
We got some ghetto old school toys. Yoda's favorite seems to be tug of war with a ball or stuffed animal inside some old pantyhose. It's perfect for tugging, as it's elastic. We also tie some a piece of rope to a plastic turtle (bout 8 inches long) and run around with it. Yoda just loves to chase it. Yoda has lots and LOTS of toys as well, all over. Wish we had a special area just for him, well, it seems to be, everywhere is his area. Must be a hoot to see Higgin pick out a toy from his toychest! :) |
Outdoor toys! We live in the woods on a lake on a dead end dirt road, so I can go outside with both dogs and let 'em run around safely. Higgins is really an outdoors lover! Ever since we've had him, he pretty much figures that twigs and leaves and rocks are toys meant just for him. And believe it or not, he doesn't eat 'em. He sure chews 'em though! He is really enjoying the huge pinebark chips in our front flower bed. Has NEVER had a runny bowel or thrown up anything funny, either. Of course we watch him closely. He's just a regular ol' country dawg! We had quite a bit of wood come down this winter and I was picking up twigs in the back yard this morning and putting them in our stone fire ring for burning later. When I turned around, Higgins was hauling everything out and spreading the twigs all over the lawn again! Futile! I'll have to get my wagon out so I can put the stuff UP where he can't haul it out again. But it was just more fun with my little guy! We seem to be doing pretty well on housebreaking with only one BM done inside and one pee on the pad by the door. Otherwise he has done it all outside. I am not putting any effort into this right now. Again, I think Pogo is his role model and he follows right along behind his mentor......... |
