I Knit Otis a Sweater!!! 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone! I spent two days knitting a sweater for Otis! Higgin's Mom, I found an easier pattern on the internet! My left hand fingers are permanently in the "claw" position, and my back is more sore than after a workout at the gym....but after that, I feel like I'm ready to tackle anything! Here it is: |
You did SO good! I'd love to learn to knit. My mom always tried to teach me, but she was a lefty and I just couldn't follow and transpose for righty. Maybe someday when I have more time...... Just dreaming! |

give yourself a pat on the back. You saved yourself a lot of money :p |
Good job, Junebug!! Otis is a handsome boy in his new sweater!! Wish I had that talent! Are all the instructions printed in Greek? ;) |
Way to go! Maybe one day I'll try to learn because I'm so jealous of all of you that knit sweaters for your babies! |
FANTASTIC JOB! Otis and Higgins could be twins! I knit Higgins one in that very same yarn! Looks so good on a Yorkie coat! Veddy tweedy and British for our Yorkshire guys. Now you've got the knitting bug and you'll be right back at it making him more sweaters and a blankie and a matching one for you.......... Post the site with the directions, pretty please. LOVE easy stuff. Starting off knitting with double pointed needles is VERY difficult for a beginner. I was a handknit designer for Coats & Clarks back in the 70s, but even then I didn't know how to knit socks on double pointed needles. Just learned this year!!!! The directions I posted here were for an experienced knitter. I remember knitting my first Aran Fisherman's sweater, with all those complicated patterns. It is still the most difficult sweater I ever knit. After that, everything else was a breeeeeeeeze! I know that left hand claw feeling! I used to knit 15 hours a day and I still often knit for 10 or 12 hours at a stretch. My left hand index finger even has a permanent twist to it.......LOL....... You have now joined the family of "Knit Knuts!" Lion Brand yarns has a wonderful website with lots of easy patterns. They also have a great email newsletter you can sign up for. Find it at www.lionbrand.com You can look at Coats & Clarks site at http://www.coatsandclark.com/fun_and_free/yarn/ And as you have already found out, there are LOTS of other great sites out there! I'm proud of ya! |
It looks beautiful Junebug! Congrats on your first sweater! So just how many hours did it take ya? :P Looks like Otis sure enjoys it! |
junebug, that was a really good job on the sweater. it looks good on otis. i have been trying to knit since i was 10 yrs old. (quite a few years ago) i keep giving up. my sister can knit anything and i can crochet about anything. she said anyone can knit. but them darn needles have got no hooks on the ends to keep the yarn on it! keep up the good work. |
It's funny LDenise.....I can't crochet worth a darn......Most people seem to do one or the other well, but not both.......I would LOVE to be able to crochet granny squares..... |
granny squares are so so easy. i think that is a beginners project. i just found a pattern for a dog sweater using granny squares. i have not made one as of yet. if anyone wants the pattern i will give it to them. it could be altered to fit any size dog by the size granny square you make. bigger dogs add more rounds. smaller dog use smaller needle and less rounds. i have knitted a few things through the years but it goes so slow for me because i lose track of what i am doing. i used a book for an 8 yr old to teach my self. |
Higgins' mom..thanks for the encouragement and the links! I tried to crochet the other day, but it felt so awkward with just one needle. Here's the link to the easy sweater. All you really need to know how to do is the rib knit, stockinette stitch, how to increase, and casting on and off!! http://www.redlipstick.net/knit/chihswe.html I also knit Otis a SUPER cute scarf with a little pompom on the end. My camera is recharging so I will post pix of that later! |
June Bug! That is a great fast sweater pattern. I am going to try it. I will also put legs in it with a ribbing stitch. I can hardly wait! Yorkie 24U! I was reading the other sites around here and I see where you were having trouble with your computer and went into BIOs and enabled Failsafe. How do you get into BIOs? Is it hard to do? I had to get a computer Geek down to fix mine not to long ago and if it happens again, would like to try that! Thanks! Pat |
Messing with your BIOS is semi-complicated, and I'd suggest you avoid it if you aren't comfortable with it. What exactly is wrong with your computer? |
Nothing is wrong now after the Computer Geeks fixed it! It had a bad worm, I guess. Was just wondering in case it happened again that maybe I could do it myself. But sounds complicated! |
