Haha, yea thats how I feel I want to give him something to keep him occupied! I will try the bully sticks and the pixie sticks and let everyone know how he likes them! Does anyone know if bones are bad for dogs? I know never give a dog chicken bones because they will splinter, but what about the round bones found in ham? Or other bones like beef bones? I heard someone say they boil them down. But I know for sure Fabio LOVES bones (only bones with flavor though, not the fake bones lol) |
Jesse also has zero interest in toys. He couldn't care less. He does love his stuffed sheep, though. It doesn't bother me that he doesn't play with toys. I don't worry about keeping him busy, because he's really chilled out and just likes to hang around. If he was hyper I would probably be in search of toys. |
Cozmo has no interest in toys. Once in a while he will try and take one away from Deiter. But as far as chewing or playing no way for him. He doesn't even like Bully sticks. I just don't understand. He will be 2 in Jan |
Tucker has no interest in toys. In fact, if it wasn't for Lucy, I would pack up all the toys and take them to the animal shelter. We've had Tucker since a tiny baby and he has never cared for toys, he prefers a warm lap instead. Lucy (Lucille/Loose Wheel) is crazy for toys and loves to play. Her friend, another Yorkie named Ariel, loves to play also, and so we try to set up frequent play dates for them to get to play together. Ariel lives with an older poodle who is too mature to be playing with a young Yorkie. T |
My yorkie Mckenzie isn't nuts over toys either. She'll play with them but she doesn't get overly excited like her fursiblings do :) I think that they all just have their own little quirks and personalities :) |
Zoey drags out 10-15 toys every day. I scoop them back to the toy box and in a few hours, she has them back out. I put some away in a plastic bag to rotate if she ever gets bored. |
um if still does not play try to finde another dog that looks like it :D :D :D |
My little girl won't play with toys either. She's 3 years old and completely uninterested in them. I adopted her a week ago and I'm unsure if this is due to nerves (though she's adapted quite quickly and is already very attached to me), or if she was just never taught to play. She doesn't respond to chew bones either. This is a little frustrating for me because she's so full of energy all the time and jumping around like she wants me to play with her, but since she doesn't respond to toys and games all I can do is run around the garden with her. |
Welcome to YT. I went through the same thing with my adopted boy. He was 2 1/2 when I got him. He was a surrender pup. He was gotten for a little 8 y/o girl when the parents were getting divorced as a comfort to the child. The little girl adored him. trained him. He was given no toys as the mother wanted this dog to want only the little girl as his playmate. This was told to me by the childs grandmother. I had Cody for a month, even tho he adapted to me and his new home & way of life (no more crating), I wanted to make sure he was settled in. Then I went and bought a variety of assorted toys. Poor lil thing didn't know what to do with them lol. I rolled balls, no interest, I squeaked the rubber toys, no interest, I threw the furry toys, a spark showed in his eyes, interest, after trying to kill the furry toys, he took interest in the soft rubber toys. Now he is the toy demon. You have her only a week, she may need more time with you, even tho you say she is attached to you she still needs time to adjust to a new home, new surroundings new way of living. Running around the garden is good bonding time, she may have been raised like my boy, no toys. Put toys away for a month then bring them out and see how she reacts. By this time she has gained trust in you . Please keep us posted on her progress. Time, patience and love works best. Thank you for rescuing this little girl. |
Thank you for the advice matese! I'll continue to take her for walks and runs until she's fully adapted to her new home. Will keep you posted on her progress! |
I adopted my Hailey at 6 years old and she doesn't care for toys either. I did get her a Kong and she only cared about it if I sprayed the easy treat inside it and she'd lick it clean. When I put the treat in it, she just bit the part sticking out and didn't even try to the treat inside. I tried it again a couple weeks later and she went to town trying to get to the treat inside! She still won't play with any stuffed, squeeky, tug a war, or balls though. When I adopted her, I asked the previous owners a lit if questions and one of the questions was what type of toys she liked and they listed them all. I kept thinking she just needed time to adjust but I have a feeling that answer was incorrect like a lot if other things they told me about her. I'm glad she's with me now, let's just say that. :-) |
I think I have more play time with the dog toys than my two adopted boys do, COMBINED! LOL The younger one is warming up to this fabric one with squeakers in it and bully sticks tossed within view for him gathers his interest. If I toss it where he can't see, he won't go looking for it yet. Gotta love these "special" little guys! ;) Walks! Even my old guy likes the dirt trails, pavement, not so much. :) |
I have 2 puppies at home and the other one isn't interested in playing with toys. However, she prefers that I play with her. She loves interacting with our 2 older dogs too. |
My Yoshi Bear docent either. Occasionally she will like to play fetch with a soft squeaky toy. I would not worry your dog is probably just content being with you:) |
I took in a 9 year old Yorkie. I was told he was 7 when I got him. I requested that they get me a proof of rabies a few days later, because I was told he was up to date on all shots. He had not been to a vet since he was fixed as a puppy. He got a rabies shot and checked out though and he is very healthy for his age. Oh, it was then that I found out he was 9 because of his vet records. He does not like toys. He will not play with them. However, he has a game he plays with me almost daily. If I get on the floor he will come up at me on his hind legs and paw the air to "attack" me. I will reach out and try to touch him and he will take off running. If he comes back and I jump at him (I am still on my hands and knees) and yell "BOO!" at him he will take off running again. If I let him get close though he will do the bear attack at me again. He is a clown! I don't know what this game is, but he sure does seem to enjoy it. We have a blast together. |
