Car sickness hey, my yorkie Mouche is 7 months old and is terrified of the car. Any ideas of how I can get him to like it? I have tried his favourite treats but he won't touch them in the car. |
My Yorkie Toto is the same He's nearly 3 yrs old and hates the car. As far as he's concerned nothing good happens when he go in it. First he was taken from his first home( he was 22 months old when I got him) then came the castration then the visits to the groomer then his yearly shots. He's become a great companion and pet, but, that car is his arch enemy. I keep taking him with me even if he doesn't want too, except when we have the very hot summer weather. Keep trying, your the boss of him.;) ;) |
... try to take him to fun places. A doggy Park or go for a walk somewhere not just to the Vet or so. I do it with Maya on the other Hand I take her with me 99 % of the time  Try it - can't hurt |
Try to get him used to it gradually. Try sitting in the car with him for just five minutes on the drive, or wherever you keep it, don't even start the engine. Speak to him gently & make a fuss of him, then bring him back in the house & give him his treats. After a few days, when this has become old hat to him, start the engine but don't go anywhere. Next step is just a five minute drive, then a bit longer each time he's got used. My two littlest ones were terribly sick but last week they travelled a round trip of 4 hundred miles without any sickness. If it's any consolation, my twelve year old didn't like the car at first & was really sick too. By the time she was about 18 months old I had to drag her past every parked car or she was up on her hind legs trying to scratch the paintwork to get in :( And it was a real picnic getting her past my car on the drive if I actually expected her to WALK somewhere instead of ride :D |
Sounds like Meggie had a lot of good ideas. |
for meggie thanks for that meggie will try as you suggest. He even got sick in the car today |
