Can anyone recommend a breeder in London or the South East? Hi all! I am looking to buy my first Yorkshire Terrier puppy as a pet. I am in London (England!), and wondered whether anyone here could recommend to me a decent, ethical breeder, either in London or somewhere in the South East? I have been reading this forum with great interest and have learned SO much. Thank you :) |
Hello & welcome, there aren’t many of us from England on here. The best thing to do is go on the Kennel club & get the addresses & phone numbers of the secretaries of the various Yorkie clubs, there are several. Ring them & ask them if they know of any members who are planning a litter so you can go on the waiting list. Be warned, at present very few of the reputable breeders in the U.K. are breeding at the moment because of Covid. Several reasons. The problem with meeting potential buyers & also the stupid prices that puppies are selling for this year. Asking £££ thousands where it used to be hundreds. They don’t want to rip customers off but are wary of selling at normal prices as puppies are being bought & then sold on at inflated prices in all breeds.I have Yorkies but breed one of the At Risk Native British breeds but am not breeding in the current situation because of the reasons given. Don’t, whatever you do, be tempted by any of the online pet selling sites as they are full of puppy farmers & rip off merchants at present exactly because of the stupid prices, jumping on the bandwagon. Even if the breed club secretaries don’t know if any upcoming litters, get a few contact details from them of members . Ring some of them. If they know you are seriously interested & you get on the breeders grapevine you are in a good position to be alerted whenever a litter is planned. Don’t limit yourself to the southern breed club, ring the national one, the northern one, even the Scottish one as the grapevine is widespread among breeders & exhibitors who meet regularly at shows....not that there have been any this year! |
