Please advise My Yorkie has two 9 weeks old puppies that are still being fed by her to a big extent. I need to find them a home but do want to cause as little distress to both the mother and the puppies. I know that 8 weeks is the minimum age for them to be separated from the mother and siblings - but I just feel like they are really too small and I think I would upset the mother a great deal. Is there any age when the separation will be less of a trauma? Thank you! |
It is always better for puppies to stay with momma until they are 12 weeks old. This is when momma teaches them manners and such, let momma run the full cycle of birthing and raising, let her finish her job. By that time she'll be looking to get rid of them lol. |

I totally agree with Joan - 12 weeks is best if you can manage it!! They really do learn so much from their mothers during those extra, crucial weeks. Thank you for thinking of them, and all their feelings....:) By the way - how's weaning going? Look forward to getting to know you :) Sally + Harry :aimeeyork xx |
