It's nearly Cruft's time.....!!!!
 
:) 6-9th March 2014.....anyone going? :) www.crufts.org.uk

We'll be watching it all on television this year - that'll keep Harry quiet for a few hours....:rolleyes: :D Sally + Harry x

So I had to read to see what a "Cruft's" was:D Kinda like Westminster of the UK. Bet that would be great to attend!

It's the only dog show that's televised in the UK - and is attended by qualifying dogs from all over the world, it's run by our Kennel Club.

We used to go when it was held in London, but they moved it to Birmingham and so now we watch it on television - you can actually see so much more!

Great atmosphere though....and masses of scrummy stuff to buy!!! :D Sally x

I wonder what channel we will see it on here......I want to put it on my calendar.....and I have to figure out the channel number with my carrier, ATT U-Verse!

I'm sorry, I tried to just look it up for you - but everything's directing me towards YouTube....

Over here, Thursday 6th - Saturday 8th is on More4, and the grand finale is on our Channel 4 on Sunday evening the 9th.

But that doesn't help at all, does it?!!!!? :D Sally x

Thank you so much Sally....let me get on what you have given me and see if that is applicable here....! I may have to wait until March 6th, when I can go thru the "guide" list on the TV....

I even went to your Kennel Club site to contact them by email....that email wont work here! I get an error message saying it is an unknown user......so I have blocked off the dates in March, and I will just browse the channels on those dates to see if it is televised on any of them!

Think you're right though, to look through the guide at the time. I'll have more time tomorrow - so will email Crufts and the Kennel Club, see if they can give any indication to me, and then I'll let you know....:) Sally x

Sally, you "lucky dogs" getting to see Cruft's live! To my knowledge, US TV has never carried Cruft's live or even on a short time-delay basis the next day but the Animal Planet used to show a compressed version of it a couple of months afterward early Saturday mornings back when they ran that Dog Show series from 4 or 5 - 7:00 am or whatever the early times were. That's the only time I've ever seen it on TV here though I think I saw that CNBC or Universal HD channel ran a compressed replay version of it once. I've think I've seen 3 or 4 Cruft's on Animal Planet and CNBC. It's a wonderful show but the compression of events takes a lot of the enjoyment out of it and it's not nearly as well-presented as Westminster with all of the time on each finalist, close-up shots of group judging and interesting color commentary that they give us during Westminster. We're really robbed on our version of Cruft's that we get to see! I'd give anything if they could show it live in the wee hours or on a short time-delay basis over two days like Westminster!

:) Jeanie, I HATE potted versions of ANYTHING....and how can they pick out the 'best bits' of something like Crufts?!!? It's such an extraordinary, diverse show....not just the line-ups for Best of Breed etc. etc...but the agility, flyball, dancing dogs, assistance dogs and absolutely masses of other stuff....aaargh!! :D

I'll see what I can find out tomorrow (probably nothing!) - will keep you posted :) Sally x

This is what I was afraid I was remembering! Seems I had always stumbled on it, months afterward, with severly edited version of each class, so they can get the entire thing in an hour or two....so sad!!

Google redirected me but I got there to Ch. 4 and Bookmarked it. If necessary, I'll watch it on the laptop as my TV isn't yet hooked to the internet except for DirecTV on-demand viewing and it's so slow I disconnected it.

It's just not the same at all. Takes all the umph out of the presentation of the exceptional dogs and you don't have enough time to see each one in all his wonderful detail and glory and "get to know" him in some way.

Saturday is Toy day this year. I'll be watching especially then & Friday, Terrier day, but I'm not going this year.
I used to go every year, with my other breed, to show but haven't been for several years now. I loved it best when it was at Earls Court, the atmosphere was amazing, especially cheering on your Best if Breed in the group. Best of all when your breed was on the final day so you were there for Best in Show, the atmosphere was electric. I loved every minute but it was tiring.

When it was in London, we had to set off in the car from home at nine the night before to catch the special midnight train from Manchester. There were more dogs than people on it of course...the tube to Earls Court never knew what hit it when we all piled on :D
Then, as you couldn't remove your dogs till after six thirty, it used to be the early hours of the next morning before we got home.
It was never quite so enervating after it switched to Olympia :D & tame & civilised being able to drive into the NEC :rolleyes:

That all sounds so exciting and fun, despite the long hours and frustrations that were no doubt hand-in-hand with all of it. I envy you getting to attend Crufts, let alone show there! I hope I can catch it live on Sally's link!

What gets me with Crufts on TV is they really should show the individual breed competitions so we can learn much more about showing specific breeds.

You'd have thought you could pay the salary of someone to go and film and edit with paid subscriptions or advertising.

Quite agree - years ago (when it used to be on the BBC) that's how it was...plenty of time seeing the individual bits, waaaay less time carrying on about stuff that people don't really want or need to know. It's a shame it had to change...

An invasion from the Colonies (that is what my grandmother call the US right up to the day she died) would be sooooo much fun. Sally says she is up for it but could Harry and Andy handle it ?!? :D
