Raw Potato Hi All Been a while since been on here and glad to see it is lively as ever. My Little fella absolutely Loves Raw Peeled potato, I do not know if this is good for him. He only has a few small pieces a few times a week, is this ok ? cheers Paul and Neko :aimeeyork |
I don't see why it would hurt him, you would want to wash the potato first, but the skins are high in nutrients. When I say wash, I mean just water, and a vegetable brush. Never use soap of course, I’m only saying this because I saw a show with the woman washing her chicken off with dishwashing detergent! |
Hi Paul & Neko! Oh I don't know if raw potato is ok for them...it might be harder to digest? But every dog is different & they can digest bones loll! How about some raw carrots, frozen green beans & some apples instead? |
I have given mine small pieces of raw potato, both Idao and sweet potato....did not hurt themn at all....but my grandmothers voice kept playing over and over in my head...."Judy Ann, stop eating those raw potato slices....you will get worms!" Now my grandmother and my mother both used to have a multitude of diseases and afflictions that were paramount in THEIR minds as disasterous...and they would throiw those out whenever one of us kids was doing something they did not want us to do..."Stay away from bird nests, you will get lice in your hair and we will have to shave all the hair off your head"...."Dont walk in mud puddles, you will get worms that hook onto the bottom of your feet and then eat into your skin until they get into your blood stream"...."Dont fool with wild cats....you will get eaten up with ring worm and we will have to shave all the hair off your head"...."For Lord's sake, get your mouth OFF the handle on that shopping cart....my God, you are going to get syphillus and every tooth in your head will fall out!!"...,,"Leave that dog alone, he looks like he has rabies and you will get rabies and start hiding under cars and foaming at the mouth".....so worms from raw potato was mild! But, I dont think a few bites of raw potato will hurt your baby! |

Yorkie mom, I needed a laugh just now, thank you! |
You might want to switch to something less dangerous. Raw potatoes contain poisonous alkaloids (Solanum) that can poison dogs and people. Cooked or boiled potatoes don't contain Solanum, but meat is more biologically available to dogs, so you might want to try some meaty treats, like jerky. You can even make your own. |

Hee hee! :D Slightly off-topic...but when I was expecting my 2 children I used to yearn for, and eat, cold peeled potato slices - couldn't get enough of them :) I still have the occasional slice now and then....!!! Hmmmm, better than my mum's pregnancy addiction to coal.... :D x |
