Brush for yorkie puppy Hello everybody ;) I am new here and I got wonderfull present on Valentines Day from my husband - small yorkie puppy :animal36 He is 9 weeks now and I am starting to search best things for him :rolleyes: Please, can anyone tell me what kind of brush I should buy for puppy and where in the UK as I don't know any spec stores for this kind of dogs :( Thank you :) |
:) hiya and welcome to yt , i am also from the uk ;) i have a 4 year old yorkie girl named poppy :) we got poppy when she was 6 weeks old , while she was very tiny we used a very soft baby brush ;) hope this helps , love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
a small baby brush at the moment but I would recommend that you brush daily so that he gets used to being handled and brushed as when the adult coat comes it is inclined to knots. As the coat changes then if you can get a real bristle brush that is the best try not to get a nylon brush as that can tear the coat. Also get a good steel comb as the coat will need combing as well as brushing. If you are going to keep the coat long then also make sure you tie the top of the head hair into a top knot as it needs to bne kept away from the eyes. |

Hi and welcome, I haven't been on here for awhile. Hope you are having fun with your new puppy. Grooming can be a nightmare if the dog has a cotton coat. I have to keep Alfie's coat kept short as it knots so easily. |
2 Attachment(s) I use a soft bristtle (cat) brush. It's smaller than a dog brush and works well as a starter brush so not to intimadate them. I also use a cat pin brush that works very good for removing tangles as well does the Four Paws (matt removing comb). There are two kinds one with cutting blades and one without, be sure to get the one without. |
I ordered already for my little puppy bristle brush with natural bristles, hope it will be good :rolleyes: just wondering can I now somehow the puppy has cotton or silky coat?:confused: |

You can't really tell what coat they have until the puppy coat has grown out. Alfie went to the groomers oneday with lovely black and tan and then it was all cut off and he's been grey and tan since, bless him. i really ought to put a more up todate pic up of him. The one in my avatar was when he was a puppy. He's 18 months old now. How is your puppy doing? :) |

House training can talke along time to get right with a tiny yorkie pup, though some can pick it up quickly if caught at the right time. The key thing is patience, if you shout at him he'll just learn to hide away to do his toileting. I have 4 dogs, 3 yorkies and a chihuahua, it took each until they were almost 12 months before they were fully house trained. My youngest is 12-13 weeks old, we've only had her 2 weeks but for the first time yesterday she took herself outside with the oters and did her number 2" out there with out being taken out. She got lots and lots of praise, so far since then no poos inside..... |
