Max paddling in his water dish Max keeps paddling in his water dish,,we have tried 4 different dishes and he keeps doing this we give him fresh water 3 times a day and after he paddles in it,,,we have tried taking the dish away after he has drank but nothing seems to stop him does anyone have the same problem or do you have any suggestions????:animal36 |
How about a very small dish. Pyrex makes small dessert custard dishes. Maybe something like that would help. Good luck! |
Sounds to me like playful puppy.Could you fasten up a rabbits drinking bottle for Max to drink out of.You may have to help Max to drink with your finger till he gets the hang of it. |
My 4 month old Carlo does that :D. I think it's cute and just let him make the mess.. it's kind of like a kid splashing in a rain puddle. Am I being too lenient?? |
Poppy does this too, not as much as when she was younger but she still does it sometimes. What I did was get a large rabbit/puppy water bottle and attach it to the side of her pen/crate. I then put a plate under her water bowl which she uses when she is downstairs. |

Why not get a stand and a pet lixit bottle? Then you can have water out all the time and it will stay clean. |
:) poppy did this when she was a baby :) i just bought a tiny dish that she could not get in ;) until she grew out of it , love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
This was one of Ivan's favorite games when he was a puppy. It was frustrating at the time but now I just laugh and remember how cute it was. He outgrew it. |

Water bottle 1 Attachment(s) I have a Shih Tzu and had a Yorkie in the past. Both use(d) a water bottle and it's wonderful. No wet, sloppy faces and they stay much cleaner. My Yorkie didn't start drinking out of a water bottle until she was a couple years old and I was unsure she would do it, but a little peanut butter on the nozzle and she got the hang of it very quickly! We also make water bottle stands for the bottles and sell them here locally and on e-bay. I've attached a picture. If you want more info you can e-mail me at LWarren@tampabay.rr.com |
My Max is 8 months old and just started doing this. But he does it a little differently. He doesn't stick his paw in and paddle at the water. He puts his nails on the edge and pulls and dumps the whole thing over! At first I thought he was trying to get the little picture of the bone at the bottom of the dish, but he's been doing this with plain ones. I think he just likes the attention:rolleyes: |
