Yorkie wont' eat dog food My 17mth old Yorkie will not look at let alone eat dog food. She lives on fresh chicken, and any meats we have for dinner etc and our veg. She does not eat many biscuits either. We did get her Hills dry food as a pup but she really only snacks on this before bedtime. My husband spoils her rotten and sometimes she just wants to be fed by hand Help!! |
Well it looks like we have found something.....Hilife moist complete..watch this space |

Thanks for that...will keep it in mind of the off chance Cassie turns her nose up.... |
It doesn't really matter if she doesn't eat dog food does it? Most wild animals, & us, don't eat pre-prepared food, real food was around for dogs long before pet food manufacturers got in on the act. Just make sure she gets a balance, not just meat. She already has veg so just add a bit of carbs in the form of rice, potato or pasta. One of mine has a severe food allergy & the vet recommended meat & potato above everything. My littlest is like yours & rarely eats manufactured food, she can pick it out of any dish I give her :D But she'll eat rice & adores spaghetti. xx Meggie |

Guess I'm lucky in that my Yorkies will eat anything. Of course I make sure it's balanced well. Hugs Shirl x x |
Hi, we had exactly the same problem with Poppy for the first 3 years. I had many lectures from the vet who told me to starve her until she eat it. I could'nt do that to her. I also tried the moist food that you mention and even grated a little cheese onto it to make it more appealing. To our utter amazement one day she just eat it. She grew into a little tubs so we now feed her on royal canin mini light which helps control her weight.(we have also managed to convince her that her food is also treats)Now she jumps for joy when her food comes out. The best advice I can give you is persevere, they are stubborn little imps. |

As a pup we put Teddy onto dry food on the advice of the Vet. Now he is older and has some teeth missing I bought HiLife which is moist but it made him sick. I then tried to soften the dried food with water and chicken stock but he wouldn't eat it. The vet said put his food down and if he doesn't eat it pick it up and put it down again in half an hour and keep doing that til he realises that if he doesn't eat it it will disappear. He now eats his dried food but we have always given him just a little of whatever we cook for ourselves and he looks forward to that but I've noticed that when he smells our dinner cooking he goes to his dish and eats a lot of his dried food then he waits til we have finished our dinner when he knows he will get his "titbits". |
