Help! how much food? Hi Everybody My name is Topsy, I have just joined YorkieTalk, I have just got a new puppy she is 15 weeks old weighs about 1.5kg. She is being fed Pedigree Complete, but I am not sure what quantities she should be having. I find the instructions on the box are not very clear. Can anybody offer me advice. Regards Topsy |
The pedigree is not a very good choice. You want to stay away from bi products all together. The first ingredient in the dog food should be a meat product. If she is the only pet you have, I would reccomend free feeding. keep a bowl on the floor for her at all times, this way she can eat when she's hungry |
Welcome! All I can tell you is that Ramsey is 4 months old and weighs a little over 3 pounds. He eats about 1/3 of a cup of kibble a day. |
I have been having problems with food, Pedigree Complete dry, for Amy, she has had diahroea and really bad tummyache, at the same time the vet gave me some worming powder, so it was difficult to decide which was causing the problems. She is now on James Wellbeloved, it does appear not to have any bi-products. Has anybody else tried this? She does seem much better. I really don't know anything about commercial dog food and what goes into it, is there a lot of issues here? Thanks Topsy |
Hi - Welcome. James Wellbeloved is one of the better brands you can get in the UK, I haven't tried it, but after trying Orijen and finding that Belle was perhaps finding it too rich, I will be trying JW and mixing this with the Orijen, too. My mother-in-laws pup is about your size and she is feeding about 50-60 g a day plus some treats and a little meat. You could also try (if you have no other animals) free-feeding so that your little girl can help herself when she wants. Good luck :) |
I keep a small bowl of James Wellbeloved down all the time, Pixie will pick at this when she wants...She will also have a bowl of canned meat in the evening and this will be Butchers Tripe mix...her favourite! or Natures Menu...I also use the bags of Natures menu real meat treats...Pixie just LOVES these! they come in Beef, Chicken, & Lamb/chicken. Pixie will eat fruit..strawberries, apple, watermelon. raw carrot, yoghurt and cottage cheese...she LOVES her food..which is just as well considering she's a lil thing! I would be worried sick if she didn't!. |

I feed Max and Sam Burns dry dog food. Max has a sensitive tummy, and was sick quite a lot, but he's fine on Burns chicken and rice. When we brought Sam home we gave him Burns food too. They both have lots of energy. Burns Pet Nutrition - Real Food For Pets delivery within two days, or you can ask your vet to order it. Burns have a good variety and give helpful advice when contacted. They also give samples on request. |

I don't anymore, she was throwing up - but the vet says it's just her immune system coming in...she can have full Orijen with no problems now. |
I am a lover of Burns food too, Teddy has awful problems with throwing up when he was under a year old, and we tried all the considered best foods we could, only Burns Chicken and Brown Rice, did the trick. He loves it, and you don't need to feed much as it is concentrated, so it works out fantastic value too. I am glad you have found a food to suit your baby, but if anyone has any problems with feeding, I would recommend Burns. |
