Recommended Breeders? Just curious where you got your pups from. I'm looking at a breeder in Nottingham, same one that I had my last Yorkie from. She breeds only for acquiring show dogs for herself and lets any she doesn't want to 'run on' go. I'm not looking for a show quality dog, just a dog that has been well-bred and cared for in the right way. I wondered what your experiences were, I'm finding other breeders I don't trust so much...many are BYBs (which I'm not wholly against, but feel that I should do the right thing!). |
if you were satisfield with the breeder before then why not contact the same one. There are many show breeders who are usually very reliable as they are breeding to a standard and a healthy pup but some are not suitable for the show ring but are perfectly healthy and good pups and the breeder with then let them go to a good pet home. The kennel club keep addresses of all breeders so you could check with them and then contact the breeders. Most breeders know of other breeders pups and are usually happy to put you in contact with them if they have nothing to offer you themselves. I would definately not buy from an advert in the paper and make sure you see the mother and if possible the father (although that is not always possible). Be careful is the watchword. Hope that helps. |
Yes I am looking at returning to that breeder, but it has been 16 years since I got my pup from her....I am just trying to do the right thing because I grew up and got myself a conscience (go figure :)). So I was just wondering if anyone had any more recent experiences to share, my mind is almost certainly made up... Since my job revolves around web, I was really surprised how hard it is to track down breeders, actually. Honestly, I wish they were more proud :D Tell us what you do, we want to hear! |
Hmmm - can't find how to edit posts... Anyway, edit to say - "thanks for your comments!" |
Your best bet is to get the phone numbers of the several Yorkie breed society secretaries off the Kennel Club website. Ring them & ask if they know of anyone in their society with puppies due. Even if you find they're all sold, once you're on the breeders grapevine you'll get given numbers of other people with ones on the way or planned, or someone who's used their stud dog. I breed a different breed, not my Yorkies, & all the people who've bought my puppies over the years have found me this way. I've never, ever had to resort to advertising, in fact I've usually had a waiting list. xx Meggie |

Many thanks, Maggie, I'm back to see the pups on Thursday and will be asking some more questions. I think I'll trust my initial thoughts if all goes well. Indeed, the lady that I am returning to never advertises. |
