Word of mouth is best .... Wouldn't it be great if we had a network of YorkieTalkers who offered space in their homes to visiting doggies - bit like a B&B for Yorkies on holiday. No I'm not nuts really ..... I am travelling to Scotland in the next few weeks for business reasons and want to take my three darling girls with me. I don't know the first thing about the area in which I have to be and although there might be something at the end of a Google search that will point me to a Kennel or such like, I 'd think twice about leaving the precious ones somewhere completely unknown to me. A doggie B&B would be great and then I could see them at the end of the business day for walks and cuddles. I'm lucky because I have a great set up at my home (a farm with plenty of room for dogs) and could offer to take a visiting Yorkie to stay here with us without any problem. WHAT DO YOU THINK? |
That sounds great! I do know that YT members have gotten other members to watch their puppies when they are in the other members area on vacation. |
Oh my god, I was just mentioning to my hubby the other day that if we ever wanted to go away I don't know who would look after Roxy. I don't trust any of his friends, and I don't have any friends in the UK yet since I'm still unemployed and just moved here in August. I had mentioned that perhaps there would be someone on Yorkie Talk that wouldn't mind looking after her, or know someone that has experience with Yorkies that could look after her. I just moved to the UK from Canada, and there is so much neat stuff to explore over here, but we went and got Roxy 2 weeks after I moved here, and now we haven't been able to go anywhere - I was seriously second guessing our decision in getting her even though I love her to bits. I live in Redhill, Surrey which is near Purley and Croydon so if there is anyone near the area that wouldn't mind watching her for a few days should we ever decide to go somewhere I would greatly appreciate it! We could even arrange a play date for our pups to get to know eachother!:aimeeyork |
We always take our little ones away with us when we go on holiday, all over the UK. Never left them at home in over 20 years, though a member of our family comes to look after the Skyes when we go away, along with all the geese etc. We stay in hotels, not self catering places.....rather be waited on hand & foot than cook & wash up on holiday :D Lots of hotels will accept them. We used to get addresses out of Pets Welcome etc though I've often rung hotels that don't advertise as being pet friendly & rarely been refused permission to take them, especially when I mention that they have their own folding travel crates to sleep in whilst in the bedrooms. But I suppose all this is useless if you can't have them with you during the day. Just thought it might help anyone thinking of taking them on holiday. xx Meggie |
I would love to be able to take Roxy on holiday with us, but I don't think that would be a very good option for several reasons. My husband and I would want to go to a lot of places that we can't take dogs such as museums, restaurants, Euro Disney etc, and I wouldn't want to leave her all day long in an unfamiliar hotel room. If I'm going to take a holiday to Greece or Italy I want to be able to enjoy it and not worry about Roxy in our hotel room, as I don't think it's very fair to her. I wouldn't mind taking her to places within England if we wanted more of a relaxing walk around town/beach holiday, but that's about it. We also don't have a UK doggie passport for her either. That being said, I'd definitely still be interested in meeting some fellow Yorkie Talk people who would be willing to watch my little one. |
yes it is difficult to try and find dog friendly places to stay when going away:thumbdown..My MIL will have my Staffy for me if we can't take him with us:thumbup: but I won't leave Pixie with anyone with her being so little, they just don't realise what extra special care she needs..there are so many things to think about with her..so many possible dangers when out walking with her..being stepped on in the home, escaping through doors left opened..eating something she shouldn't...the list is endless! they would think I was being silly and over protective of course.. then theres her everyday care..grooming, teeth brushing etc..she is hardwork..like a human toddler! our holidays are with family and caravan holidays or hotels that accept pets..I have never put a dog in kennels ever. |
