Newbie needs advice Hi my name is Karen and I just recently found out that someone I know is possibly giving away her dogs pups for free to a good home and before I make a big commitment and ask if I can have one I was wondering if any one could please give me advice about everything to do with yorkie's. Thanks. Hope you all have a good day. |

Thanks Diane, yeah I had a look on the site and others after I added this post and I came to the conclussion that food and toys I can afford easily and now the only thing I need is for my housing association to say yes to letting me have a dog and for the breeders dog to have more than one pup as one has already got a home to go to. I wouldn't mind the runt of the litter though as I seem to have a fondness for the runts of litters. But thanks for replying to my post and I am already in love with the yorkshire terriers and I really want one and can't wait to get one and start on the training and of having a pet again but I want to make sure that I know everything or nearly everything so that I can make sure that I can give the pup a good home. |
I agree!! Do a lot of reading on this site! There's just tons on information here. Oh, and I have to warn you! If you get a Yorkie be prepared to fall head over heels in love!! They are so very special. Good luck! |
Hey!! Welcome to YT!!:yorkietal I know my baby Darla is a mess!! Every furbaby has their own unique character. I have had Darla for about 4 months. She has took over my heart!!! And my family's. You have to brush them everyday, wipe their eyes, and a whole lot of other stuff!! It's almost like having a real baby. But just look around this website and you will find a lot of interesting things about yorkies. I did a lot of research before I got Darla and when I was researching, I found this website. So do your homework!! :yorkiesar |
Shame on me! I forgot to say WELCOME! |
welcome to the world of Yorkies. May i suggest that you either purchase a good book about yorkies from somewhere like Pets at Home or go to a library and borrow a few books. You will need to decide if you want your yorkie to have a long coat or not as they are actually a long coated breed but that does involve work on the coats every day. Even if you keep the coat short remember that their hair is the same as humans it does not moult (good thing) but needs regular combing and washing to keep it in condition and the yorkie in good health. Do you know why they are being given away rather than sold as yorkies sell easily so be a bit suspicious. If you need any further help you will find it on the site but many of us including myself will give individual advice if you send a private message. I have two yorkies and have had yorkies for many years they are a lovely breed but although they are small in size they consider themselves to be large dogs and have a very large character which can present problems sometimes so be aware. Let us know you decision but do check the health of any puppy you consider. |
Thanks, I don't know why she's giving them away but she's a nice woman and loves her dogs, she has two dogs male and female which I am assuming that the male is the dad and they are both yorkie's. They both look to be in good condition, I plan to go to the library today to get some puppy and dog books to get some more research, if I am there when the other buyer goes to see the pups then I'll know if there is anything wrong as the other buyer has previously owned yorkie's so she'll know if there is anything wrong with the litter but I think by looking at the mum it should be ok but yes I will be careful when going to see them. Thanks again for your advice. |
