Amongst it I've got two new brushes for the Yorkies which I found recommended on the grooming board, or showing one forgotten which, & some Summerwinds Protect-A-Coat.

So it's in the sink with high hopes of sorting the puppy tangles later today :D

I bought two new brushes, both of which I really like....I'll have enough brushes to stock a shop soon :D

Best of all is the Protect-A-Coat.
It isn't al all how I expected. In the catalogue & on the bottle it says it can easily be removed with a good PH shampoo so I was expecting it to leave their coats quite oily. Not at all!
It's left them very smooth & silky but not oily in the least.
Ellie was due a bath so I used it the recommended way. Shampoo, rinse, then add a cupfull to a bowl, up to her hocks, & keep pouring over for ten minutes. Don't rinse out, blow dry.
She was becoming a real tangled mess with puppy fluff at the roots of her coat every day, but now it's smooth & very silky. The day after the brush just glides through.
Even her lower legs, which were the very worst for tiny little knots, are far easier to brush through.

Button is really snuffly again at present so I didn't bath him. Instead I mixed some with water in a spray bottle & used it to groom him, which it says you can do. That worked well too.

I'd ordered a medium sized bottle but next time I'm going to get the gallon! :D

Thanks for letting us know, Meggie. The Protect-A-Coat sound amazing. I can't see Toots standing in the tub for 10 minutes while I pour it over her though! LOL! She just can't wait to get out. Which brush,of all your brushes, do you like best? I am using the Chris C. brass pin brush on Toots as well as their comb. Toots hates being brushed and so I can only assume it is uncomfortable for her. She has a cottony coat which is very soft, wavy/curly and silky, so knots within minutes of brushing her!

Hi Yvonne.
The brushes I bought are the Chris C Gold Series pin brush & an Isinis brush. I'd seen both recommended over on the show forum.
I like them both. The Isinis one really whizzes through the knots.

I have about two dozen others I've collected over the years, several Kent bristle ones, a few odd pin brushes, a Mason Pearson, some All Systems & others I've picked up round & about. I even sometimes use Denman ones & an Aveda one on them.

I have to say this Isinis is the best so far at just shifting the knots.
But, once all the knots are out, the very best ones I have found for smoothing & polishing their coats are some antique silver backed ladies bristle hair brushes, really deep & soft. I've got quite a few now, picked up at antique fairs & shops over the years. You can buy them cheaply if they've got a bit of a dent or scratch on the silver, which doesn't matter at all if you want them to use on the dogs, as antique collectors only want perfect ones.

Ellie doesn't seem too keen on the Chris C one. But she hates the comb. Her breeder, who's a bit of a big cheese in yorkies & on the judging circuit, never used a brush only a comb so perhaps she learned to hate it when she was tiny.
Button's the funniest. If ever someone else is being groomed he comes & pushes himself under the brush between them & me.....he craves any attention :D
