Dry coat Can anyone help me, my puppys coat is getting reallky dry and not silky like it used to be, what can i do to make it sort and silky again |
Hello, I haven't seen conditioner in our local shops, so I improvised and massaged pure coconut oil into Max's skin, before I bathed him. It has helped a lot. My problem with Max is that he never looks groomed for any longer then fifteen minutes. He looks beautiful in this time frame, but soon looks like a homeless waif again. Any tips? |
We feed our babies a teaspoon of cod liver oil in their food 2/3 times a week and that keeps their coat good from the inside out!!! |

So i have no tips on that one but if you get any please share with me. XXXXXXX |
i use a moisturising shampoo for long silky coats, there are a few brands. Then I use a people hair conditioner. I use a rinse out one but leave a little bit in instead of rinsing it out completely. If it feels dry between shampoos I use a conditioning coat dressing when I brush them, at the moment either Shaws, a little almond oil or Royal Coatalin. Evening Primrose capsules are good for moisturising coats from the inside out. |
I'm glad that Max is not alone, I thought he was the only scruffy looking Yorkie around. When I see all the other members photographs of their furbabies, I thought I was letting him down lol. I think I'll try the cod liver oil, it'll help his bones too. :) :) |

Maybe it's his food that is causing the dry coat:confused: How about trying another kind of food?? Check this site www.dogfoodanalyses.com Another thing you can do is to give doggie food supplements. I read very nice comments on Missing Link... Or perhaps you're not using the right shampoo/conditioner on him... A lot of ppl like to use PetSilk, Minksheen, Cranberry Fields... Okay, I'll stop now:D :D :D |

I bathed him yesterday, with people shampoo and conditioner, and he coat is looking really nice. The puppy shampoos aren't very good on his fur. I have started to give him cod liver oil too. Fingers crossed.;) |
Cod liver oil is an excellent idea and is definitely supposed to sort out dry coats as well as being good for their hearts and joints. The thing is you need to try and get one that is free of contaminates. They do make ones that have been purified. My little Tootsy cannot have fish oils so she is on Flax seed oil. she has just started on this and I hope to see a very glossy coat soon! Also the Vit E oil in capsules, is good too. By the way, Chellbe46, where did you get that lovely coat Tino is wearing? Luv Franceen |

Thank you for your kind words, i got his coat on ebay, he also has it in gray and blue too. this is the link below, hope it helps let me know xxx http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Vitamin-Dog...Q3amesstQQtZkm |
lol Chellbe, I buy coats for Max from eBay. His fur hasn't stayed nice for long, only about three days. Maybe it's just him, he's always in the garden, rolling about in the grass, or being nosy amongst the bushes. How long will it take before the cod liver oil, makes a difference? |
How much do you give of the cod liver oil? My grandmother was from Scotland and I grew up on cod liver oil, whether I liked it or not! LOL |
I give him 2.5mls of cod liver oil three times a week. I recall my mother giving to my brothers and I every Sunday night lol. Where in Scotland did your grandmother live? :) |
