Strange Ears Hi I'm new to Yorkie Talk and could do with some advice on my puppy's ears. My puppy is 16 weeks old today and her ears are half standing up but the tip of one flops forwards and the other flops backwards (inside-out). It looks a bit strange and I wondered if there was anything I should do or should I be patient and just wait and see what happens? |
You can search for "taping ears" - you might look on here in the grooming Form! someone will post a good link for you, that has the info! a lot of yorkies ears do not stand up when they are young! |
Ear Taping Thanks - I've had a look at the 'taping ears' discussions but I didn't fancy sticking tape on my baby. If you think it might work though I could give it a try. |
Welcome to YT. Murfee ears flopped for awhile when he was younger. I never had to tape them, they just starting to stand up on their own. Just give it a little time. Good luck. |
1 Attachment(s) If he is just a pet to you does it matter if his ears stand up or not. I dont think its nice to tape there ears, hes hes should do what they want to do. Tino`s ears were floppy when i got him at 10 weeks but now at 7 months they stand up really well. Attachment 200401 |
Don't resort to taping, he's only young yet anyway. I breed two other terrier breeds who all have prick ears & they all behave the same way when the ears are going up. They don't just pop up all at once from being down. They tend to go up half way, with the tip bent over as you describe. Then gradually the tip goes up. They can do all sorts of funny things in between, up one day, down the next. One up one down on different days, then swap round! Even once they've both gone up & you think "great" they can suddenly go down again whilst they're teething. The two things I would suggest are, flip the inside out one the right way whenever you see it, and trim any long hair on the top third of the ear, so that there's less weight for it to lift. Apart from that, just leave them & don't worry, they mostly get there in the end. |
Thank you all for putting my mind at rest. I don't care how my sweet baby (Meesha) looks, I was just worried that inside-out ears would be less likely to prevent her from getting grass-seeds etc. in her ears. I have trimmed the fur from the tip of her ears and I will just have to wait and see what happens. I would love to share some photos of Meesha with you guys but I haven't worked out how to do it yet. Thanks again for your advice. :) |
