I really need an opinion I live in a backsplit and my neighbour lives in a corner lot in a side split. Ok here's the problem. His back yard which is only about 4deep looks on my side yard. For some reason my Yorkie Toto dislikes this man and will bark at him for hours if I would let him. He sets on his stoop to smoke a ciggy and Toto goes mad. He's a good dog except for this problem. There is a chain link fence around our back yard. All I have to say to Totie is BE QUITE and he is. This bugger wants me to put a muzzle on him. My DH thinks we should to keep the peace and I think I should tie the pair of them up and drop them into the harbour. I say no d....m way. And where would you get a muzzle for such a little snout as if I would. Gee men are ........I think I will put up a 8' wood fence and see how he likes looking at that. I needed that, to blow off some steam. What do you all think? We have live side by side for 18 years and he has always been a good neighbour and so have we . I even saved his life last year. But when the last people lived in this house and had a Westie he poured hot water on him when he barked. |
Sorry but your anger about this could harm your Yorkie. I think as responsible owners we have to try and keep peace in the neighborhood with our security guards.:p With my gang they are immediately brought into the house if they start barking because I do not want the neighbors complaining nor do I want the neighbors to hate my dogs. No telling what they could do to them. I like your idea about the wooden fence. |
I think your neighbor is deliberatel antagonizing the dog. Many years ago we had a Chow that would bark at one neighbor all the time. Finally another neighbor told us that the guy would sit out there and make noises to get the dog barking. I think a privacy fence would be an excellent idea. Good fences make good neighbors. I also will bring mine in if they bark, and we live on an acreage. But the barking bugs me so I don't let them bark. It is annoying to everyone. |
I would put up the wood fence. This way atleast he couldn't see him, and bring him in if he starts to bark. We have a wood fence, but mine still bark if the man next door is working in his yard. I went over and apologized, and he said it doesn't even bother him, because they only do it for a few minutes. |
I have in the pass found my neighbour in Quote:

Barking baby When I first contemplated getting a Yorkie, my first concern was the "yappy" factor. I really dislike a barking dog. Toto is probably a good judge of character, as most dogs are. What I did recently (seeing as that I've only had mine for 3 months), was to ask my neighbour if I could bring my dog over to his yard to meet him. This way, it was not an unknown for Kiwi but someone that she has met. It was apparent that he was not a dog person but humoured me anyway and I did find that it helped. The barking has subsided and everyone is happier for it. Margaret and Kiwi...the quiet princess girl |
Well I have done this We even had him over for drinks on our patio and Toto behaves himself but as soon as he goes over to his place Toto will bark, but, only if I am not outside. As I said before he will stop if I yell "Toto Stop." I have to say that my neighbour is German with a heavy accent. I remember when my Grandmother would visit a little dog I once had would sit under her chair and growl whenever she moved or spoke. Maybe this is a problem. |
I wonder if this person reminds him of someone from his previous life (before you, I mean) that perhaps he disliked? Or maybe it is just the sound of this persons voice. I think that if I were you and could afford to build a wooden fence, I would, just to stop the barking. It would also deter this neighbour from teasing the dog. |
Before I got Toto The lady that had him said he was not used to men. She was a devorcee and was suffering from cancer. She had 4 dogs and Toto was a little to much for her as he kept challenging the other males. He is just now begining to trust Dh but I am still his fav.The last thing he needs is this male bugging him. He has come to love my father and even gotten use to his cane. I think he may have been abused because if you are holding a cane . broom or a large stick he is afraid and will run away from that person. Since I sometimes need a cane and so does my father and stepmother I needed to work closely with my baby so he would get over this. He is a loving dog and I don't want this guy setting him back as Toto is still fearful of certain things like too many people in the house at one time or going into strange places. But we keep trying new places and people so he will grow up to be a brave dog.:animal36 |
