For those of you that have picky eaters....
 

I just discovered that if you sprinkle a little garlic salt , not too much now, but, just enough to make it smell interesting, the little beggers will eat. My Totie hates dry food but eats wet food if I sprinkle garlic. Darn dog's making me crazy trying new foods. Right now he's eating Merrick's which is natural food. I have of course made his food but he still gets picky. Somehow though he likes what I eat. Not going to happen so we have this daily fight, but , garlic works for me.:D

I can't imagine.

My Mocha will eat anything and seems to think he needs to eat all the the time.
He's a real little pig. Funny thing is, that when I first brought him home, I was worried that there was something wrong as he wasn't eating. the breeder said "that Yorkies eat to live and don't live to eat." I think she got that one wrong at least where Mocha is concerned.. Of my 3 dogs, he's the worst mooch.

but turns up his pretty little nose at his food. When he feels its getting close to dinner time he stars barking and pawing me to get up and get the meal started so he can see what he's having.:mad: :D

Maybe you need another dog to create a bit of competition for the food.
Here, if they don't eat it when it's served, they miss out as one of the other two dogs will eat it.

Um, both garlic and salt are VERY VERY bad for dogs! If I were you, I would definately try to entice them to eat with something else. Maybe some shredded cheese perhaps. But defiately NOT garlic salt!

He doesn't tolerate other dogs very well. He came from family of four dogs because he was the one that was fighting. he was 22 months old when I got him. He's great with people, and thinks cats are just fine, but, other dogs are just not his cup of tea.:thumbdown

I was sure that in some of my recipes
 

for homecooked meals had garlic in them.I will check on that and I will leave out the salt. Thanks for the heads up.:eek:

My vet said that dogs love garlic. I tried giving some to mine and she would not touch it. in fact if i have any on my hands she almost runs runs from me. and she loves food. she'll eat things she's not supposed to eat like paper but garlic no way.

I asked the vet garlic? she said yep... she said it was ok for them.
the salt I agree is bad but let me know if my vet is wrong.

I found this information on a site for veterinary information. I hope it answers your question about garlic.

"Dogs develop hemolytic anemia if they eat enough onions. I don't think that it matters too much
whether the onions are cooked or not. The quantity of onions required is high enough that dogs
can generally tolerate small doses of onions without any problem and moderate amounts of
onion without clinically apparent disease, even though there may be measurable changes on lab
test results. Cats are probably a little more sensitive to onion toxicity than dogs are. I can't find
an exact quantity of onions required to cause toxicity problems in dogs, but there are several
case reports of onion toxicity and they involve whole onions or sizable portions of chopped
onions (like a cup or more). I think that feeding dogs meat that has been cooked with onions is
pretty safe but you might want to avoid giving them the broth from around something like
pot-roast if there were a lot of onions used in the cooking, just to be safe.

Large amounts of garlic will produce similar toxicity problems in both dogs and cats. I think that
the amount required is not likely to be eaten by a cat but there are probably a few dogs who
would lap up a container of spilled garlic."
