Help required with yorkie puppies'ears I have a problem with my puppy's ears. they bend toward the back. My puppy is 10 wks old. I shaved his ears and tape them so they could get straight but they curled backwards and I taped them again, and they still curl backwards. Please help! |
I don't know what to say? I've never heard of this. What does your vet say? Have you tried to post this thread in the general area? You may get more responses. I figure at 10 weeks you might want to just let them be for 3 weeks or so and see if they come forwards... These little guys change so much in the first 6 months. Good luck :) |
Hi YorkiesX2! Just noticed you're another saskatchewanian! I'm in Moose Jaw, maybe our puppies could have a play date someday! :D |
My Harley's ears did the same thing at 10 weeks old, it took about 2 months before they completly stood up straight, but they will, just give it time. I did massage them and taped them at night and WHA LA they finally came up. Good luck. |
3 Attachment(s) I took in a yorkie once from a BYB..... actually, I paid her $300 to be able to take him. He was in terrible shape... it was so sad. He was 5 mths old and one of his ears fell forward and the other fell/feathered backward. He looked just awful. Never bathed or let out of a cage. Anyways, I shaved his ears and taped them for 2-3 days.... retaping them during this time if the tape started falling off, or if he scatched it off. Then let them down. If they started to fold, I taped them another 24 hrs. I did this cycle until they stayed up, which took about a week. After I got him in tip-top shape, I found a wonderful family for him with no young children. He got scared so easily since he was not use to household noise. I have 3 little kids, so my house wasn't good for him. I loved him so much though!!! I will post before/after pictures of his ears below. |
That is so terrible that anyone would be so mean to an animal I'm so glad you rescued him he looks so cute in the last picture. Thanks from everyone when I say you probably saved his life! :littleang |
Puppies ears Hi, If they bend back, you don't really have to bother taping. They will come forward and stand on their own. The ones that flop forward are the problem to stand erect. Those you have to tape. I start shaving the ears at about 4 weeks and will start to tape them at about 6 weeks if they are real floppy. Sometimes the ears can be properly up then flop at teething time but they will come back up. If they do that and don't come back up in a day or two, I tape them again and they are usually up on their own pretty quick. |
Hello I am too from saskatchewan, Kindresley,so good to see other people from canada here....... I have had pretty good lucky with both my yorkies, i jst shaved them and they stood on there own, my youngest I was a little worried her right ear was a little bit slower but perked right up! :aimeeyork |
You are from Kindersley? Wow that is so cool. A bunch of my family lives in Kindersley and Marengo! |
One ear bends backwards My 3 mos. old, Brutal, has one ear that bends backwards but I've got no interest in taping or modifying. If it straightens out, great, and if not then he'll be unique. He's not a show dog, he's a family member. I do appreciate this thread as it has informed me that it's not unusual. Thanks :) |
