my yorkie hates being groomed any advice on how to avoid being scratched or bit when grooming my 4 month old yorkie chelsea. i tried this morning and she scratched me. PLEASE HELP |
All I can say is, try and be quick, don't wet her head so that water goes in her ears, they hate that. Wet the body first, shampoo, scrub, rinse, condition, rinse. I use a washcloth for the face. As for the hairdryer - try to find one that doesn't make a lot of noise and has a cool cycle. TREATS, TREATS, TREATS - once your done! Good luck. |
Charlie use to hate being groomed. he would growl and nip but I just kept on doing it and he finally settled down. He is 2 now and doesn't mind it at all... Give her alot of treats!!! |
My little guy HATED it at first too, It was the only time he would growl at mama. I took him to the groomer to get his face trimmed the first time and she taught me that you simply hold firm to the hair on his chin and don't let go. She assured me that it would only hurt if he pulled his head away so he would instead learn to stay still. I did this and we lived happily ever after. I still do this today if I need his attention, he doesn't pull away and he is a good boy and sits still for grooming, he is now 8 months old. He also lets me brush his teeth using the same method (VERY IMPORTANT) for this small breed. Another thing is you should use lots of healthy treats as rewards for sitting so well during grooming. I use the 100% dried chicken so atleast if I over due it with the treats, they are healthy. The last thing you want is to reward with junk food :) Best of luck! |
