Red Tail Hawks In Hamilton/Dundas Area I just wanted to say that on the weekend we had a little visitor in our back yard. A Red Tail Hawk!!!! He had a mouse that he devoured on my fence. When I approached to get shots of him.....he didnt move & eventually I had to go out with my broom after him. I have this on the forum only because these Hawks will go after your Yorkie if they are hungry enough. After doing some research on them; they eat all small animals; rabbits, squirrels, small birds...ect....I have read that they will go after cats as well. So needless to say I now have to go out with my Zoe every time she goes outside. Apparently they are in full bloom in the Southern Ontario Region this year. |
Not only in your area, as far south as Oklahoma there has been an abundance of hawks this year. A couple of weeks ago I was looking out our back window and saw one fly within 2 feet of the ground through our back yard. I see them often up in the trees or flying high but this was close enough I could see his shiny eyes. I've never let the kids out unless I'm standing there with them and I try to make lots of noise to make the hawks aware of my presence. |
Spotted in Toronto's West-end too!! One showed up in our backyard about a month ago...and we live in Toronto! I was surprised to see one in the city. It killed a small bird - it was awful. I, too, do not let Bobby out without me. |
The funny thing is I live in a residential area as well & I feed the birds in my back yard & I have lived here for over 10 yrs & I have never seen a Hawk in my back yard....so I know something is up this year & its not like we have had a really bad winter. This winter has been quite mellow with very little snow. So to hear that they are in the Toronto area....wow..thats scarey...cause you cant get more Residential then that. I will say, its been a full week & I have not seen him back, but my husband seems to think it was really cold last weekend when he showed up....so lets see what happens when it gets really cold again......& Im sure I wont have to wait too long for that......since it is winter....LOL! |
