Yorkie barking problem Hello, I am new to YorkieTalk and live in Orangeville, Ontario. I am going to view a Yorkie girl puppy soon and have a question about barking. I live in a very small 1 bedroom apartment for seniors and I feel the neighbours will complain about puppy barking. I have surfed the internet for solutions and I think most devices(collar) are cruel. Has anybody experienced the barking issue and what did you do to make it better? Hoping to hear from you, BES |

Hi and welcome BES! First you have to make sure the seniors apartment allows dogs. Then you know residents who live there should expect a reasonable amount of barking. In my experience, Yorkies bark LESS than other breeds (including my Shih Tzu and Sheppard-Husky mix dogs)! Much less! But that's my Yorkie dog - maybe I got lucky with him not barking. If the puppy doesn't already have a barking issue - then s/he should not develop one when with you. When my three pups get playing and start barking too much - I get my little spray bottle out and squirt them once or twice. They stop barking real quick. Good luck and please keep us posted. :) |

I got mine at 4 months old. She didn't bark or whine. She didn't react to banging, knocking, doorbell. I was in heaven, I live in an apartment style townhouse complex. And then one day she heard a noise found her voice and now anything that walks in the hallway she reacts to. It's quite annoying actually. We have been very good to immediately get her to stop by using the word "quiet" or "stop" and she has been receptive at the moment, but it doesn't seem to stop her from doing it the next time she hears a noice or footsteps. Best of luck to you. |
