Top knots
 
I don't put Mochas hair up very much as he hates it up. But in the past I have occasionally.
The other day, my husband pointed out to me, that Mocha has a slightly hairless (scarred area?) on the top of his head, obviously caused from pulling his hair up. I've always put the top knot in loosely so it wouldn't hurt him. Now I just feel awful about this and will no longer pull the hair up.
Anyone else notice this on their yorkies?

I haven't. The groomer always puts two little bows in our Zoe's hair and lately they have been in pretty tight because they lasted until her next grooming! I haven't noticed any discomfort at all.

I've put my babies hair up since I got him at 9 weeks, he's 17 weeks now and he doesn't have any scarring or hair loss, I put a ouch less rubber band for kids in during morning grooming and take it out at night when I'm grooming him and give the top of his head a massage with silk serum.

He did however look hairless at the top, when the top of his head was changing colors.

Hi there, I just wondered which silk serum you used and do you find it really good? Also, do you use the covered hair bands for children on you dog? I am in the UK so am not sure what ouch less rubber bands are! The ones I used on my daughter were completely covered and didn't hurt at all. Are these the ones you are talking about?

I own several yorkies and some will work on the elastic until they get it out or their lovely friends will pull out the elastic while playing. I recommend only put in elastic if you have nothing else to use or if you are getting ready for a show. I recommend for every day use soft cloth bands that you can use on little kids............. If your dog does not like her hair up you might have to trim the very few hairs above the eyes. That will hold back the other. :animal-paAlso there are some good grooming tips on youtube.:animal36

How old is Mochas? If you pull the hair too tight, you can lose blood circulation to that area, and hair loss will occur, but it doesn't sound like that's the problem. Is Mochas still a puppy, maybe the hair is just still thin. Here's a great site that has some tips on getting you dog to wear a topknot, and I also recommend the latex bands, they are easy to remove, but stay in place very well. The Diva-Dog Bowtique

I never did put the ouchless hair elastic in tightly. Always a bit loose because I know it hurts if too tight.

The new hair has grown in to about 1.5 inches now with dark brown tips.
I very rarely put the hair up either now or then.:animal-pa
