www.puppylandla.com has anyone ever got a puppy from there in the LA area? |
Please don't buy a puppy from a pet store. Almost all of them come from puppy mills and you run a great risk of having a very sick puppy on your hands. High vet bills aside, it would be so heartbreaking to watch the puppy you fall so much in love with become very ill. I had a close friend whose daughter bought a pug puppy (Frankie) from a pet store in our mall. He was so sick. He didn't show any symptoms until a couple of weeks after she brought him home. I can't remember his exact diagnosis but he had encephalopathy (swelling of the brain). He wasn't expected to live. Frankie ended up with a miracle and he is fine now (3 years later) but it's just not worth the risk, heartache, and expense. There is alot of good information here on pet stores and puppy mills and puppy brokers. I'm sure someone else with lots more knowledge than me will chime in. Good luck with your search for a puppy! |
I agree with you Please don't buy from the pet store.... It's heartbreaking................I got one almost 4 months ago and.............. she's gone now.......... :( it's been 3 1/2 weeks now.......:( If I only knew...... but it's your choice.... I suggest to do some research........ |

Why do you want to buy from puppy mill/ store? Too many great breeders around. That way you will know what you are getting. DOWN WITH PUPPY MILLS. |
so I am trying to understand this, you should always be down with a private owner who owns a pet store? even if he is a yorkie breeder? |
I tried getting it from the breeder at first but when they found out that I have kids that is under 10.....they hang up........ I wanted it so bad....I've waited for 5 years to get prepared but no luck from the breeder..... I only have 1 choice.........the pet store....... my kids looooved my Chloe......They were very gentle and caring with her....I didn't know why the breeders didn't want to sell me one.... |
I am still trying to get my money back .... I spent $830 in vet bills and they won't pay it back.....they will only pay 150% for the dog but not the vet bills... so I gave them a copy of california lemon law...:D I don't know what the response yet.......... I JUST WANT MY CHLOE BACK!!! |
Where do pups in the pet stores come from? Do you know of any good breeder that would sell to a store? |
Have you talked to many breeders? |
They came from many different states. I talked to some breeders and wouldn't give me one..... I went online to find a breeder in california . I also went to AKC website to find a reputable breeder but no luck they wouldn't give me one because of the kids....I cannot get rid of my kids:D ..... |
The lemon laws states a 1 year health guarantee. Most GOOD breeders wont sell 3-5 pound yorkies to people with small children because yorkies that small are very fragile, they can brake a leg very easily. they are pretty much infants themselves. But a 6 or 7 pound yorkie does just fine with kids but you still have to be careful and teach your kids to be very gentle with them. Pet stores will tell you that the pups are not from puppy mills mostly because they have no idea where they actually came from, they usually make orders to corporations such as the Hunte Corporation (who is the leading supplier of puppymill pups). No GOOD breeder would sell to a pet store because they want to see and interview buyers and make sure the pup will be in good hands not just sell to anyone with the money. If you really like a pet store that seems nice and they claim that they are from good breeders, they ask for the breeders info, like phone number, ect.. Then call the breeder and go to their house and see the living conditions there. You will know if it is a puppymill by the horrible smell and all the dogs are filthy and in cages. It is a very sad life for them, so please dont support it. |
You said it all Karren!!!!! I always interview the potential buyer of any dog I sell...no matter the age or size. I would give a dog away before ever, ever letting it go where I don't know where. |
pups For one thing it is against all club rules to sell to brokers and pet shops..second, has anyone ever heard a pet shop onwer say.."we buy our pups from puppymillers?" Who would admit to it..and some may truly believe they deal with reputable breeders..but no way IMO... |
Please don't buy from a pet store Go to google and put in Pet Store Cruelty and spend some time reading. |

Only if you want to cry your eyes out. |
so i decided to email them and this is what puppylandla.com had to say our family breeds our own puppies. they are hand raised at our ranch. the parents live happy comfortable lives in their bungalows and grass fields. our ranch is located in southern california just 2 hours away from los angeles. thank you. |
Puppy Stores are the worst. Responsible breeders are the best. Some will ship and I know of one who has cute little puppies. |

If they dont, that is a big red flag. Any GOOD breeder will welcome you to their premises. Good Luck! |

Well, I have been following the website. They have had 3 litters since the post has been. So, I guess you can conclude that they are not "true" breeders. Does anyone know of a good breeder in southern california? :D |
