New Yorkie Owner Hey Yorkie owners! I'm new to this site, and new to owning a Yorkie. I"ve always been a big dog owner, and have years of experience with working dogs (patrol, bomb/drug sniffing, etc) But I have never experienced such a difficult time with getting my little Abby pottie trained!! She is 4 1/2 months old now, and I am quite aware how smart she is, and don't doubt that she knows she's supposed to pottie outside. She goes every time I take her out- which is every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. The problem I'm facing is she will still go inside ALL the time. I'd say she probably goes on average 2 to 3 times an hour. I plan on taking her to the vet to she if she has a bladder infection. Most of the time she tries to hide from us when she goes, and sometimes she'll just squat right in front of us- almost as if she's saying "ha ha---" She's inside most of the day, because I don't want her out in the 100+ heat, and she seems to drink a normal amount of water.... so... blah blah blah...... We have to literally watch her every single second to make sure she doesn't go on the floor--- but she will make us chase her around the house, and now she's resorted to sometimes running behind the couch to pee. Has this happened with anyone else? LOL I've tried a lot of things and I'm not sure what to do next??? |
How well I remember the days of watching every minute!! It would be wise to get her checked out just in case of course but I also wondered at one point if there was something wrong with Gizzie (she's now 10 months) but now I think it's because she is the smallest yorkie I've had and consequently her bladder is tiny and can't hold much! (Maybe I'm wrong!). I just used to grab Gizzie (and Gypsy Rose before her!!) when I saw her starting to squat and just make a disapproving sound and put her out in the garden where she would hopefully continue....!! I never told her off as such.. maybe your little one is getting a bit over-anxious about it all? (I don't mean because you are shouting at her or anything like that! - some are very sensitive... little Gizzie is and I have to watch how I express my disapproval LOL). Your baby is young yet and they do say that yorkies are hard to train but I have never agreed with that. I know it's hard but just carry on.. you think the time is never going to come but all of a sudden she'll get the message and you'll be so proud of her and she'll be so proud too!! :aimeeyork Ana xx |
