My new yorkie is 3 lbs at 10 weeks how much bigger will she get? Hi everyone I picked up my new baby girl on Monday. Her name is Bailey and she was born 9-13-13 so she is almost 10 weeks. She weighs 3 lbs already and the breeder told me she wouldn't go above 4-5 lbs as a adult because she will lose baby fat but i'm thinking she will. She is my first yorkie so I'm not sure about the weight range for yorkies. If she is already 3 pound at 9 1/2 weeks do you guys think she will be a big yorkie? I asked him for a pup that would be around 4lbs when adult. Either way I love her to death. Please let me know what you all think. Thanks |
Hi, your baby will probably be in the range of 9-12 pounds or bigger. To get an estimate of adult weight, you would double the weight at 12 weeks...My baby was 1.6 pounds at 12weeks old and he is now almost one year old and at 4 pounds. |
I was told that the weight of the puppy shouldn't exceed the weight of the heaviest parent..I haven't gotten my little guy yet but his daddy weights 4.5 pounds and his moma 6 pounds so I was told he would probably be somewhere in between. I would love to hear more on this topic to see for sure because I won't be getting him untill January 4, 2013. |
Yorkies come in different sizes, the standard is less than 7 pounds but depending on the line, even though the parents are small, sometimes a larger puppy can be the result. |
Well, I don't think the answer has changed much since last year when you asked about Todd's size. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/cal...ml#post3841445 There really is NO way to know for certain how big or small a puppy will mature to. You'll find predictors but that's all they are. To me, it sounds like this breeder may not have been looking out for this pup since a good breeder will usually keep a puppy until 12 weeks (for health & learning of the pup). I want to encourage you to check out the YT library here on this forum. You'll find it very helpful. It's one of many Forums (shown when you click on the word Forum at the top of the page, under Yodi the Yorkie's picture.) Good luck with your new pup. |
Estimating Adult Weight Just google yorkie size chart and you'll find several to choose from. Its only an estimate. The easiest way to judge is to double the puppy's weight at exactly 12 weeks of age to come up with a best guess adult weight. The younger the puppy the less accurate the charts will be. |
My Yorkie is only 2 lbs 4 ounces and her mom was 4 lbs and her dad was 3 lbs. we thought she would be around 4 lbs but she is too tiny. |
