Reputable Breeder
 
Hi all,
New member.....and looking for my very first yorkie baby.
Any recommendations in the SF Bay area for reputable breeders?

I've done a lot of research and am having a hard time knowing who and when to trust. Some of the health concerns sound terrifying. Should I stay away from listings on ebay/craigslist? Only go with recommended breeders from AKC or YT Club of America?

Hello and welcome to YT. I would got to the YTCA website to start finding a reputable breeder. I would skip Craig's list. There is a lot of scams. Actually dogs are not suppose to be listed on EBay it is against the rules. Anyone that would put their dogs on either are not reputable breeders

I agree that looking on the YTCA list is the best place to start. Our attitude for our next baby is that we are willing to wait,save up the money to make sure that we have the bills covered. We waited 9 months for each of our kids so we are willing to wait a few months to make a connection with a good breeder.

Here's a great link to finding a reputable breeder - what to look for - it's long but worth it. In general I would stay clear of craigslist and ebay. Stay away from anyone that doesn't have a health guarantee of at least a year - look for someone who has an established network and "line" and/or does testing - Stay away from anyone who sells mixed breeds - morkies, chorkies, etc. - buy the Breeder - you will have the joy of a great dog for 14+ years - so do it right in the beginning and it will pay off.

Feel free to post breeders when you find them and ask what people think here - they will tell you. Take everything with a grain of salt but listen to your gut - make sure you can meet the breeder/parents or that is at least an option.

other things to consider - "chocolate" is not a rare breed - it can be a problem - there is no such thing as "tea cup" and if someone continually breeds to make too tiny of a dog there will most likely be issues.
