Why does my yorkie keep scratching his ears???
 
I am not sure why my little guy, keeps scratching his ears :confused:. He is 11 months, and I have noticed he's doing it more and more.:animal36

Sounds like a possible ear infection. The vet can check and prescribe ear drops if he test positive and in Armani’s case that took care of the scratching.

KB had that problem with an odor to her ears. She had yeast in her ears. My vet told me to mix 1/2 rubbing alcohol with 1/2 apple cider vinegar and use a cotton ball to rub her ears each day. It has been the best. But do get a diagnosis, before you use this remedy. Good Luck!

I think ear mites can also cause this, best to have a vet look at it.

Thanks everyone. I guess I better get him into the vet's office. Do you think it can be the hair in his ear's that's irrittating to him ???

You need to pluck the hair in the ear canal; it can cause moisture to stay in the ear, which can lead to an infection. It's fairly easy to pluck it, and some people use a special ear powder that makes it easy to grab, if you only pull the hair in the canal it doesn't hurt them and this should be done with a fast movement.

Alot of time ear itching can be a sign of ear mites. Is there black debris inside the ear canal? Drops will take care of the mites but you will have to take him to the vet. Good luck :)

That sound like what my Melanie had, I took her to the vet and she had ear mites. The vet showed it to me in a microscopy, he gave me a medication to apply every other day and now she is brand new... The vet told me that ear mites are very contagious and that if I had other dogs in my house, they should be treated as well.

Interesting because my vet told me that as long as my dogs don't sleep together they don't all have to be treated for the ear mites. I thought they should have all been treated. What'd your vet say about bedding? Like, Barley sleeps with me and I've cleaned my bedding but my vet sad the revolution drops would kill the mites.

When I first got Barley he had ear mites and ear infections really badly. I love that video as it's exactly what I do with mine now.

My little Cocoa has a yeast infection in her ears. They found it September 1st when she got spayed and she is still itching. They had her on an antibiotic and when that ran out, they said to give her claritan. They said it takes a month for the antiobiotic to work yet they only gave her 2 weeks worth. The claritan is not doing anything. I'm gonna try the alcohol and apple cider vinegar. I've used sweet oil and that doesn't help either.
